I think it is because they have a lot of lottery players like cali, new york, texas and florida to name a few states with a lot of players. So they win their fair share of jackpots and I just hope oregon gets one every now and then so I have a chance to win one. But it is frustrating to see one state win like 3 to 5 jackpots a year when my state has only 3 powerball jackpots in the history of powerball. And no mega millions jackpots but we have been in mega millions since 2010. So you can't expect much from that. Good luck to all who play!-weshar75

41 states generated a lot more than $1 million, but they have to pay for the minimum jackpot first. Sales for the first $12 million drawing were a bit over $15 million, which means about $4.5 million in cash for the jackpot. That's only half of the $9 million cash that a winner would get for the $12 million drawing. The next roll will almost certainly be to $21 or $22 million, which is about what it has been for the 3rd roll for the past year.

PB does the same thing. They promise a jackpot that they don't collect enough money for, because they know that they probably won't have to pay it, and because it brings in more players. PB just continues hyping potential jackpots for a longer time than MM does.

In the end the increase is meaningless. What matters is how much the jackpot is, not how it got that big, and what your odds are. MM will rpobably continue to roll, and in a couple of weeks it will be in the $50 milion range, and for $2 you'll be twice as likely to actually win the jackpot as you would be with aPB ticket.

I take it since you think only cheats from California and New York ever win, you don't play MM.
