"Where is it written that the states have a guaranteed monopoly on these games?"

Some where in most state laws because anyone starting their own game is usually arrested, taken to jail and the courts sentence them to some prison time for illegal activities..

Referring back to the April article on a new national gaming system, this would involve the voluntary cooperation of the states.

No one needs to go to jail, except the occasional PB haters for refusing to pay for their tickets.  Let It All Out

Still have the drawings Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday's, but with some improved enhancements:

    1. Daily $1 million giveaways from entered losing tickets.

    2. Triple all the lower tier prizes. (Example a 3+0 ticket is now worth $21).

    3. Increase the minimum jackpot to $50 million.

    4. Tickets prices to be set at $2. (No increases for 10 years guaranteed).

No more bailing ship from one game to the next, because of fluctuations in the jackpot, less tickets to fill out, and more attractive prizes.

So I guess the moral of this thread is: The greedy low life, scum sucking states always win in the end. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em!   Chair

Lotteries has to be self supporting and profitable.  They aren't run by states or anybody else as a public service program to give away money.

If so called "scum sucking states" didn't win in the end then tax payers would have to pick up the difference and that's not going to happen since most tax payers think they support too many give away programs already.

No state is going to allow any gaming operation within its borders that isn't taxed and makes money for the states.  Any more most cities don't allow lottery players to win any sizable amounts within their limits and not pay a local tax.

Wow and all this time I was under the allusion that the states were just giving away this money, as a gesture of good will.  Big Smile

              Thanks for the enlightenment RJ!

Actually I wrote up a bit about it back in April:  http://www.lotterypost.com/news/245446

                              $5 per ticket is outrageous!!
