It happened again in NJ Pick3, Jan 18, 2013. Side-by-side winning numbers from my very own chart.

The last time was Jan 14, 2013. On this day, I was ready for it but somehow messed up when I bought the ticket.

I guess I should start believing on myself more.

Wiser from 2 disappointing plays, I was convinced there was a trend emerging in NJ Pick3 and Pick4. This time I was ready to play a cross, above/below/left/right of the last winner, in this case 0145. And what do you know ? 0461 won. The number NE of 0145. DO I REALLY HAVE TO PLAY A "STAR" TO WIN ?

Darn again. I guessed correctly SUM=010 but should've/could've. Well you know.

I received an inquiry on my previous posting where I mapped lottery results into a scatter graph and tried to predict outcome based on potential geometric shape the outcome was likely to form. My theory was natural forces (like gravity) will cause these shapes to form (boxes, diamond, pentagons, etc).

I did this for the month of June 2012 and actually ended up in the black. On 2 instances, on 6.14 if I played STR/BOX or WHEEL, I would have won. And on 6.27, I did not play the Evening draw where it came out.

I did this using google docs which has pros/cons to excel. It was too painful to maintain it in google and waiting to get an excel where I can automate the data entry. I would say that other techniques I tried have not been as successful as when I did it with the scatter graph last June 2012.

Lovies making lists. In this List, I noted down the winners from NJ Pick4 where the digits "19" appears. Lets face it, a lot of us born in the 19th century, loves to play our Birthyears. And the NJ Pick4 Lottery rewards us by regularly spitting out winners with the "19" digits. There are even times when they appear in streaks.

Streaks are important for Lottery Players. A Statistics teacher once illustrated the concept of "Randomness" by breaking his class into pairs. 1 pair was asked to flip a coin 100 times and record the results each time. The rest were told to do a mental flip (No actual coins were involved). They were told to imagine flipping the coin and imagine what the result would be. When they were done, the teacher went over their lists and found the list where there was an actual coin used.

How did she do it ? In a true random event, streaks happen. Given a choice between head and tail, its very likely for a long series of heads or tails to appear. For Lottery Players, this is the window we need to catch early and "RIDE".

For NJ Pick4 midday, Jan 11, 2013 and the next 2 days, I will play this Birthyear strategy. Also, the last time the SUM=EQUAL came out was last Jan 11 Midday with 1922 and Jan 10 Evening with 1166, both has SUM=14. The other recent occurence was in Nov 13, 2012 where 1968 appeared in differing orders.

Between Nov 13, 2012 and Jan 11, 2013, it seems its a loser to play the SUM=EQUAL scenario. But I am tempted to play it, hoping it will finally return. And I will play it with the Birthyear pick, betting on 1199, 1298, 1379 and 1469.

I AM CURSED by the Birthyear strategy. I just can't win in NJ Pick4 even if there is a clear streak going on. 3 straight drawings, I am missing by a digit. Darn.

Thats IT ! 4 straight drawings with that missing digit to make mine a winner. To add insult to injury, a Birthyear "19" came out tonight.

            While I played 1959, 0591 won.

              4 Straight Draws, 4 Near Misses. $3.5 x 2 x 4; $28 blown in the wind.  So near and yet still a loser !

I was a Data Analyst until I got laid off 2 years ago. I'm still trying to use my Data skills to crack the NJ Pick4. My last win was last Dec 2012 and another win would come by soon.

Anyway, I wish to share my Excel skills in this forum, to the benefit of all. This spreadsheet maps the frequency of the digits from 0 thru 9 over 1 thru 4 weeks of drawings. Let me list the steps needed to produce this, so you may apply it to your individual state lotterys or even to mega and pb.

                1. Produce a list of previous drawing results from your state lottery website, then hit the copy keys (Ctrl C)

                2. Open a spreadsheet and drop the list from step 1, (Ctrl V)

                3. Split the Results column (Column C) into 4 individual cells using the SPLIT function

                4. In a separate area, map the digits 0 thru 9 in individual cells

                5. Do a COUNTIF function, incrementing the counter only if the value in the cell matches the value in step 4

                6. You can do a CONDITIONAL formatting to HIGHLIGHT the digits with the most occurrence as shown in the RED/WHITE cells.
