Should you win either sizable Jackpot- do you see yourself moving into a upscale gated community?

Perhaps to keep the vultures & news reporters at bay?
To rub shoulders with both Old & New Money? You obviously would be entitled to it.
Or do you move higher up into the Mountains?

Old Money doesn't think much of sudden waelth jackpot winners.

They didn't do anything to earn it and may or may not keep it.

In another thread someone mentioned the book The Millionaire Next Door. In that book it was pointed out that most millionaires in the U.S. drive American cars.

Just go to any of the jackpot fever threads and see what kind of cars potential winners fantasize about buying.

Old money tens much more to view the 'other wealthy' as them and us.

Those who run the lotteries love it when players look for consistency in something that's designed not to have any.

      Lep

There is one and only one 'proven' system, and that is to book the action. No matter the game, let the players pick their own losers.

That's right Coin...and also they'd be on you with all their HOA rules.....I mean you sneeze in the wrong direction and they'll kick you right out of their little community, you'd basically have to be a hermit

I live where there are HOA rules and the only problem/concern I have is that they need to enforce equally. I have a neighbor with a pile of kids toys, bikes, etc. piled up in her outside doorway (we don't have enclosed private porches) and they will wait till many complain about it yet for others, they'd be on them in 2 seconds.

You do need some oversight in any community and mine is not gated. Look at that dummy Bieber who had the HOA going after him for his dangerous driving....if they don't do it , who will?

and Old Money today did exactly what to earn their money? What gives them the right to look down on someone who has lucked out into wealth just the same as them. They cling to this belief that their money is superior because it's established, likely because of an insecurity in their standing as they have seen their influence on American society dwindle to nothing - no one cares what Old Money thinks today.

For me, it would heavily depend on the restrictions and the type of people residing there. I know how some subdvivisions want all the homes to be "uniform" in appearance. The blinds must be a certain type, the plant within the landscaping must look a certain way, you can't have curtains...etc All this is a turn off to me as I've been exposed to it already. When homeowners aren't allowed to fine tune their landscaping and homes to fit their personalities, within reason, it's too much control and I'm out.

Then, we have the neighbors. I dislike stuffy, unsociable, "I'm better than you and my home's bigger" type people. Neighbors should get to know each other and keep an eye on each other's homes. Lots of things to consider. Lots of times times, being in those gated communities can be like being in prison...real talk.

No, seems many gated communities are high crime these days, I'll move to the country and stay far from the riff raff.

                          Toronto,

I'm not condoning the old money attitude, just saying that's the way it is.

                          Hello, let me introduce you to Mr _ _ _ _ _, he's from the _ _ _ _ _ fortune.

                          Hello!

                          And Mrs _ _ _ _ _, she's from the _ _ _ _ _ fortune.

                          Hello!

                          And Mr. _ _ _ _ _, he's kept the _ _ _ _ going since his great great grandfather started it.

                          Hello!

And here's Mr Lotto player, he hit a jackpot.

                          Oh.

everone will always say " thats a great idea "

peronally, i would prob  lease. not go for a gated community.

                              I'd prefer a fenced community.
