Lucky Loser,

You make some really good points and did an excellent job of expressing them.

maringoman,

Yeah, when I read the quote that's the analogy that came to mind re: lotteries.

LottoBoner,

This is today's:

"You can never get rich, or start the creative power into action,
by sending out unformed longings and vague desires."

— Wallace Wattles: American author

Those who run the lotteries love it when players look for consistency in something that's designed not to have any.

Lep

There is one and only one 'proven' system, and that is to book the action. No matter the game, let the players pick their own losers.

Weird, but that quote immediately reminded me of an old Mamas and Papas song (Way before my time, of course!).

Words of love, so soft and tender,
    Won't win a girl's heart anymore.
If you love her, then you must send her
Somewhere where she's never been before.
Worn out phrases and longing gazes
Won't get you where you want to go. (No!)
Words of love, soft and tender,
    Won't win her anymore, anymore
