I honestly believe we play because of the "what if I won" factor....I don't know of anyone who plays with the intention of "I want to lose"...To me, losing a dollar or two is not anything to be concerned over..The idea of millions of dollars in your posession gives a sense of comfort that you won't be tied to work, that you can come and go as you pease, you can help people that are important in your life or help those that you may never see again. The good things that I could do with this financial windfall have always brought a smile to my face and a sense of of enjoyment in my thoughts....Having that kind of feeling for a few dollars a week seems pretty reasonable to me.

For many it's their only shot, if I did'nt play I have to wonder if that was the game I could have won.

They play the lottery for the same reason they vote my man!  To get something for nothing!

Look at those brand new Benjamin Franklins you are throwing around!  It makes the mouth water!  My grandpa once told me "Son.....That money makes the mare trot!"

Speaking of mares lets horse trade.  I'll trade a bottle of Peach Schnapps for a bottle of Hennessy whattaya say?Big Grin

99.5% of the people play knowing they probably won't win, but they feel it's possible. The ones that scary me are some of the remaining 5%. They truly believe they will win as long as they stay positive. And we all know they all can't win.

It's either a delusion or insanity.

For most working stiffs it's the only chance for a life changing score.

For some others they just want to be part of on something - consider the media jackpot fevers when there's a huge jackpot amount.

And for some, who watch newscasts like CNN, they've been subliminally hypnotized into playing.

                  Scared    Wink

Those who run the lotteries love it when players look for consistency in something that's designed not to have any.

There is one and only one 'proven' system, and that is to book the action. No matter the game, let the players pick their own losers.

                        Yep, you speak the truth.

Winning the lottery is a certainty given enough time. But humans do not have enough time and croak first before they win. The trick is winning EARLY, well before your time.

I know this full well, and only play because of the WTF factor. Just play because, WTF, take a chance, what have you got to lose, a few bucks? Small price to pay for a bit of entertainment and to be in it to win it.

I know that for MM/PB, about 1/3 of money spent goes to the JP winner, which in all likelihood won't be me. And I know that another 1/3 goes to state funding for public benefit, which does not directly benefit me as I'm not a student or senior. The rest is for administration and the lower tier prizes, of which I'll only get back a few cents on the dollar.

                        But WTF, it's just a buck!(or two)

Players are looking for one or two of the golden tickets out of millions every drawing, but most drawings have no golden tickets. Basically players face two sets of odds; the odds of any ticket winning and the odds of their tickets winning.

Most know it's unlikely they will win a jackpot, but not impossible. There are some so obsessed with winning they can't go a week without discussing spending winnings they will probably never see. I wonder how may of them are treated for depression after years of failure?
