Hi everyone,

Just curious if people are more addicted to scratch off's or draw games?  Personally I think it's much easier to have an addiction to scratch offs. One of the reasons I had to put myself on a budget was due to my slight addiction to the scratch off's. Sometimes I would buy scratchers daily or every other day and then get so bummed out when I only got back the face value of the ticket or most of the time won nothing. For some reason I never had a problem being addicted to the draw games. I could go a few weeks without buying an MM or PB ticket or when I would buy those would only buy 1 at a time. There is something about scratch games, maybe it's that adrenaline that kicks in when you get that scratcher and start scratching hoping to win the big prize. With a draw game you have to wait for the draw. It's so easy for people to become addicted to gambling. I have only been to a casino once in Atlantic City years ago and spent 20 dollars lost it and left. There are times I want to go to Foxwoods in CT but luckily it is an hour and a half from where I live and just haven't gone. Though I would like to go there once and just spend a day on the slots for the fun of it.  When I was addicted to scratchers it didn't help when I would go on my state lottery's website and see winners of scratchers and dream about being one of those people. It's no wonder there are so many people who are addicted to playing the lottery since the state lotteries try to make it seem like you too could be a millionaire (more than likely not going to happen).

Scratchers are the biggest sellers for state lotteries. People like the instant gratification. Personally, I rarely buy scratchers. When I start thinking about buying a scratch tic, I just look at the diifferent ones on TLC website, check the odds and tell myself forget it.

Only buy scratchers once in awhile, used to get them for my dad all the time.

That's what I do too, I also check the odds in which you'll win. Amazingly enough it is usually the $20 and $10 ones with the best odds

I think any time there is no limitation on when to play (scratch-offs) or if there are multiple draws per hour (e.g., Hot Spot, our lottery Keno with draws every 4 minutes) you run a greater risk of people playing "irresponsibly" as they chase wins or try to win back the money they lost.

Odds are better on scratchers...I have won more money that way Vs the draw games...SO,

SCRATCHERS are the addictive  winner..in my humble opinion.

                *Florida Lottery Press Release:

FLORIDA LOTTERY SETS NEW RECORD FOR WEEKLY SCRATCH-OFF SALES

TALLAHASSEE - The weather is great in Florida and the sun isn't the only thing shining, Florida Lottery sales are increasing right along with the temperature. The Florida Lottery announced today that sales of Scratch-Off tickets exceeded $78.5 million last week, an all-time record. The newest record breaks the previous sales mark by $4.5 million, reached the first week of March 2012. Florida Lottery's Scratch-Off sales have also surpassed the New York Lottery, the highest-selling U.S. lottery, the past four consecutive weeks.

"Twenty-one Florida Lottery games had sales of more than $1 million last week," said Florida Lottery Secretary Cynthia O'Connell. "This is good news across the board because higher sales result in more winners, increased commissions for retailers and more revenue generated for Florida's students and schools."

The Florida Lottery newest $25 Scratch-Off game, 100X THE CASH, led the Scratch-Off game sales, exceeding $15 million in sales last week. The $20 GOLD RUSH TRIPLER Scratch-Off game followed closely behind with more than $9.5 million in sales.

Terminal game sales are also contributing to the Lottery's bottom line, as both multi-state jackpot games continue to roll over, creating hundred-million-dollar jackpots. The Lottery has been averaging more than $100 million in total sales every week for the past seven weeks.

Last Thursday I went to the distric office because I won the Play 4. While I was waiting I witnessed 10-12 people who all won on scratch-offs. I was the only person there for a terminal game win.

Thats amazing. Myself and alot of friends rarely play NY scratchers anymore because of all the losers. Most of my $$ goes to Conn.

Shy, scratchers are more addicting and i see more women buying them then men.

I'll say more people are adicted to scratchers.

I really think scratchers sre designed for Type A personality people who want to kow if they won or lost right away.

Also, not all scratcher players, but certainly enough to notice stick their money in a machine, get their scratchers, scratch them leaning on the display window of the machine (thus blocking anyone else from getting to the machine) and keep doing that until they've won something or have blown all their cash.

I guess they're afraid that if nothing in their current batch of tickets hits something in the next batch might and they don't want anyone else getting to 'their' machine.

I've never seen anyone get a ticket for a draw game and hang around staring at the monitor until the results come in.

Those who run the lotteries love it when players look for consistency in something that's designed not to have any.

                      Lep

There is one and only one 'proven' system, and that is to book the action. No matter the game, let the players pick their own losers.

I'd certainly say more people are addicted to scratchers given the instant gratification factor. Most people i see in the stores buying them are scratching before they even leave the store. I like scratchers, but i really enjoy drawings because i feel more involved by picking my own numbers and then the wait and see aspect as well. With scratchers bam it's over within seconds and all you got to do was scratch. Guess i like to feel like i got some kind of bang for my buck in the form of entertainment even if i lose LOL
