Just read the minutes of TLC's last meeting and Gary Grief mentioned he would be (did by now) attending a MUSL conference in which they were discussing changes to Powerball. They are unhappy with the inability of the game to roll to big jackpots.

Here we go again. Can you say "matrix change"?

Yep, they've been planning this for awhile. I mentioned it in a post earlier this year and if I'm not mistaken they are increasing the Powerball bonus ball pool to 43 or 45 (will have to dig up the post). They're also thinking of adding a second-chance element like the new Monopoly game will have.
- If the chances of winning the jackpot are so slim, why play when the jackpot is so small? Your chances never change, but the potential payoff does.
- If a crystal ball showed you the future of the rest of your life, and in that future you will never win a jackpot, would you still play?
- I believe Joan Ginther ("world's luckiest woman") merely played lottery as a tax strategy. Evidence: zero prize claims through 10 years after her last Lotto Texas annuity payment!

I take it, they'll make the odds tougher than Mega Millions, but look what's happening with that game. It's still being won before the anticipated monster jackpots. I do miss the jackpot frenzy though. As far as jackpot prizes, this summer was a dud!

Players who win $100 millions still get excited, it's just that kind of excitement isn't called a frenzy any more since most of the loser feel foolish for having brought losing tickets.

Powerball - They need to revert back to $1.00 Tickets, and kill the $2.00 ticket fiasco. Maybe the Jackpot will increase faster, if more people start buying more tickets, more often again, because they can afford to again.

PB players don't need to do the math to understand they must purchase 30 tickets ($60) to get a reasonable chance of winning something; especially for the $12 - $20 a week player after tossing those tickets almost every drawing. I believe even the die-hard PB an MM players have figured out how difficult it is to win a jackpot and without the monster jackpot, it's just not the same.

The odds of winning a jackpot seem to favor PP, but the odds of winning a MM jackpot by purchasing $30 worth of tickets is 8,629,695 compared to PB's 1 in 11,681,567.

I don't think it will matter if they add more. There's always someone who will play those extra numbers as birthdays or something else.

How do you figure winning a jackpot favors PP? Do the odds change or what?

PB is 1 in 175,223,510 compared to MM 1 in 258,890,850.

Technically, PB is easier, but when it comes to playing the lottery, none of the games are easy.

I see what Stack is saying, but I'm not a $30 a week player (on 1 game). I spend that much or more but on several games. I only play one line on PB and MM each.

Haven't most jackpot winners played one ticket, one to five lines of numbers?

Those who run the lotteries love it when players look for consistency in something that's designed not to have any. So many systems, so many theories, so few jackpot winners.

There is one and only one 'proven' system, and that is to book the action. No matter the game, let the players pick their own losers.

I've often wondered about that. Most of the time the story doesn't say, but the story about the last PB winner in CA said he bought $30 worth of tics, 15 lines.

Powerball is making more money by selling tickets at $2. It might go to $3 or $5 per ticket.
