Has anyone went back and looked at previous drawings and looked at the number of times back to back pairs have been drawn?  For example 49,50 and 10,11 etc.  It seems like number pairs are the norm rather than the exception.  It just seems fishy for that to be happening just about all the time.  What do you statistics people think here?

Certain numbers just seem to run together.

Those who run the lotteries love it when players look for consistency in something that's designed not to have any.

There is one and only one 'proven' system, and that is to book the action. No matter the game, let the players pick their own losers.

Yes, I've noticed.  I've matched a few pairs over the wks but it doesn't pay anything.  The highest I've hit was 3 white balls on mm.

Anything that runs long enough will look fishy eventually. Number combos can't always be perfectly spaced,

mixed or used. The situation that's perking your interest will go away...just give it some more time. It'll go

back to being impossible again. Don't get your hopes up that there's a predictable pattern emerging. PB MM

are tough games, I wouldn't kill my chances playing the temporary norm. GL though.

That most people are usually wrong about what's statistically normal and what isn't.

              Statistically Speaking for 2014:

              Mega Millions -

sequential pairs happened 25 times or 24% of the time.

at least one repeating number from the previous draw happened 34 times or 33% of the time

Both happening in the same draw was 14 times

              Repeating bonus balls 7 times

              Powerball  :

sequential pairs happened 41 times or 39% of the time.

at least one repeating number from the previous draw also happened 41 times or 39% of the time.

Both happening in the same draw was also 14 times

Repeating bonus balls 6 times *includes one that repeated 2 times"

              But I could be wrong!!

There is an average of repetitions. The minimum is 0 and the maximum is the amount of balls drawn of that set. There are charts for that.

                  I Agree!

Yes Coin but respectably the question is why?

Could there be a repeating cause & effect because of proximity

interactions or other inherent numeric associations?

sticking together is what balls do.

Yep it keeps happening on both games.

At what point do we start think something fishy is going on with the way numbers are drawn?  What if this happens for every single drawing in both games for the next six months or more?

Thumbs Up this is interesting observation. You would expect such clumping on Cash 5 games but not in games with 75 & 59 balls.

It is a very interesting observation ... but how does a person take advantage of it or really use it. There are so many numbers to cover ... like you said, a Cash 5 game is one thing but 75 numbers ... a small fortune maybe spent just to win a few dollars.

With that said ... I am doing this for Friday's MM draw ... I played two tickets with the extra dollar and went with a "side by side" set of numbers with each ticket ... then I bought a single $1 QP for a total of $5 for Fri and Tue. I will probably play the same set of numbers for the whole month of February, to give them a real "test".
