Six states, Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Mississippi, Nevada and Utah, are losing millions in state revenue as they don't have state-run lotteries. Millions of dollars are crossing state lines to states with lotteries.

US lottery revenue in 2014 was $70bn. Powerball alone accounted for $4.81bn. For comparison's sake, the combined 2014 gross revenue for professional football, baseball and basketball was only $23.6bn.

We all get a lot out of lotteries!

Nevada will never get the lottery as long as the casino owners have a say.

Americans in states without lotteries can play a lottery, the Massachusetts Lottery.

The Megabucks Doubler game is open to all across the US. Subscriptions can be purchased from the comfort of home by phone. Subscription tickets are sent by UPS.

All of us benefit from the revenue raised, even if we don't win a prize.

Louisiana benefits from Mississippi not having a lottery, since people from that state cross the border to play. There are several winners from Mississippi listed on the Louisiana Lottery website.

Mississippi, like Nevada, also has casinos, so if they have a say, there probably won't be a lottery there soon either.

What is Hawaii's reasoning for not having a lottery ???  It would be even more revenue for the vacation state.

Nevada and Mississippi having casinos and no lotteries is ridiculous.

ThatScaryChick nailed it about the casino owners.

Those who run the lotteries love it when players look for consistency in something that's designed not to have any.

Teach the state government, subscribe to Massachusetts Megabucks Doubler, and tell your state politicians that you are.

Let them known that the state is losing revenue.

Freedom of choice  myturn . Just because one state chooses something, it doesn't mean all states choose that. Lotteries are not a national law governed by the Constitution, it's a states choice. Similar to invoking a state income tax. Some states do and some don't, to generate revenue. They could have religious reasoning behind their choice or other ideas as why it's not currently available. Some of the states that have state income tax do NOT tax lottery winnings. Not too shabby of a deal !!!

Before Oklahoma had the lottery, players had to to go Texas & Kansas. One of the reason it took Oklahoma so long was the casinos owners. They ended up passing the bill but with ridiculous legislation that's why Oklahoma scratchers can't exceed $5 for $40,000.00 Bang Head and we can't have a state lotto jackpot game.

"  We would love to offer an Oklahoma only draw game with a rolling jackpot. However, current legislative restrictions and limited sales make it impossible for us to properly fund a game of this nature. If anything changes with our mandated profit restriction we can explore this an a future option to our game portfolio".
