                    I'm also contemplating Wheeler's pairs with my digit 8 key today. If my key and any one of Wheeler's 15 pairs comes in, I am a winner. 718 708 108 938 928 329 158 148 548 378 368 768 598 588 988

                    That's 15 numbers versus a store bought, no-match key 8 play of $36:

                    018 028 038 048 058 068 078 089 128 138 148 158 168 178 189

                    238 248 258 268 278 289 348 358 368 378 389 458 468  478 489

                    568 578 589 678 689 789

For $36 I can guarantee myself a win if digit 8 shows up at all, unless a double shows up to spoil my party.

                    Hmmm

Tee's pair strategy is to blanket the field with 37 pairs and thus her net has double the width of Wheelers' though of course that makes it double the cost.

Let's see. These are her 37 pairs.

                      02 04 05 07 09

                      13 12 16 17 18

                      23 24 25 26 27 28 29

                      34 36 37 38 39

                      45 47 48 49

                      57 59

                      67 68

                      78 79

                      89

                      33 88 11 66

If I key them all with digit 8 it will cost me $37 at the store. The advantage of using her pairs as opposed to my box play above is that I could include a few double plays as well though a digit 8 number could slip in and rob me.

                      Hmmm. Decisions, decisions

Primer for newbies about what I call "doubles insurance"

Did you know there are 90 matched numbers we call doubles?

                              Here they are.

                              001, 002, 003, 004, 005, 006, 007, 008, 009, 011, 022, 033, 044, 055, 066, 077, 088, 099, 112, 113, 114, 115, 116, 117, 118, 119, 122, 133, 144, 155, 166, 177, 188, 199, 223, 224, 225, 226, 227, 228, 229, 233, 244, 255, 266, 277, 288, 299, 334, 335, 336, 337, 338, 339, 344, 355, 366, 377, 388, 399, 445, 446, 447, 448, 449, 455, 466, 477, 488, 499, 556, 557, 558, 559, 566, 577, 588, 599, 667, 668, 669, 677, 688, 699, 778, 779, 788, 799, 889, 899

Store players will cough up a hefty $45 "premium" in order to hedge your bets against the possibility of doubles.

My policy is whenever I pay my premium for doubles insurance I also add on trip insurance, especially in times when a trip seems likely. So there are ten trips and that would add on an extra $5 at the store.

So let's suppose you were spending $100 in all on a key bet aimed at at least doubling your money. It might be worth your while to spend $50 to cover all doubles and trips. If a trip comes then of course you have at least $250 for a 50c bet. If a double comes then at least you would receive $80 in case a double ruined your parade of other numbers or your big bet on a few numbers.

Back when I used to spend a lot at the store, I would load up on 4 singles, spending perhaps $10 on each and then cover myself with doubles. Sometimes I would get lucky with my singles but most of the time I didn't. But hundreds of times over the years I have kept myself in the game by avoiding losses by keeping doubles insurance. While I didn't usually make money on this kind of play, at least I am "protected"  against losses caused by doubles when I didn't want them.

Now of course, there are some players who regularly play doubles and even mostly doubles at the store because of the prohibitive cost of our "voluntary tax" as some people affectionately call the price of our game! But that's the subject of another edition of Lothob's Lottery 101 lol.
