Bottom line is that the jackpot odds are getting worse, nearly all prizes are staying the same, and a 10X multiplier is being added to PowerPlay, conditional on the jackpot size. Jackpot is also getting more of the sales allocation pie, and the lotteries hope that the higher odds + higher share will increase jackpot sizes frequently (and lead to the maniacal frenzy we all love to talk about on LP).
If the chances of winning the jackpot are so slim, why play when the jackpot is so small? Your chances never change, but the potential payoff does.
If a crystal ball showed you the future of the rest of your life, and in that future you will never win a jackpot, would you still play?
