Anyone ever notice the similarities between lottery and religion.

both spout big rewards

both are funded by member contributions

both offer many smaller prizes

both require faith, a lot of faith

both are related to future events

both require one to pay to win

both have different sects, quick pickers, system players, baptists etc...

both have know-it-alls

both have clearly defined rules, which most ignore

both don't help the poor

both are looking to increase their flocks

both will make you rich, if you have faith

both offer many books to increase your chances

both loose converts along the way

both are alike in if you win you will have to depart from you friends

both produce more losers than winners

both sell collectibles, tapes, movies, hats, T-shirts etc..

both have horror stories

both have leaders that are corrupt

both have devout believers who refuse to accept the truth

both have members that contribute more than they can afford

both allow anyone to join

These are just a few that come to mind.  I am sure there are many others

      RL,

Both encourage praying - but the difference between praying in church and praying while watching a drawing? When you watch the drawing you really mean it!
      Scared

Those who run the lotteries love it when players look for consistency in something that's designed not to have any.

      Lep

There is one and only one 'proven' system, and that is to book the action. No matter the game, let the players pick their own losers.

Interesting post.  I haven't thought about it quite like that...

Food for thought and a couple of good giggles -- both marks of a good posting! Hurray!

                    Pascal's Wager?

Atheist's Wager. States that you should live a good life and be a nice person, but leave religion alone. If God is loving and kind, he will forgive you for not believing in him and reward you in the afterlife. If God punishes you despite having been a good person all your life then god is unjust and you shouldn't worship him.

A while back one of my doctors ask me if I believed in God and I was unable to answer.  She then asked

if I considered myself a spiritual man.   The doctor took my first response as a "NO", but she was wrong.

I was unable to answer her question because I had no point of reference as to how she defined God.

Several years ago I had a vision which changed my definition of God.   I did not see God but when he spoke

every atom, particle etc...  shook.   It was as if all matter in the universe was ready to act on his words.  God

did not speak to me in the vision and I am glad because there is no wiggle room for anything.   I have often

asked God about many things in the past and now I consider it a blessing that he did not answer.

Like Raven62 signature says " A mind once stretched never returns to it's original shape"  I am not knocking

God here but religion.  The Christian faith started with a sure foundation, the building we have built is another

                        story.

Bohr's reply to Einstein "Stop telling God what to do"  fits very well with my beliefs.   My best guess is that God

exist in, or is what we call the quantum realm.  From what seems like chaos comes perfect order and what seems

real is an illusion and disorder.

The "mystery" is revealed within the Bible but don't expect to understand it without a great deal of study.  It's too

                        simple for us to understand.

                          RL,

There are military units called PSYOPS, psychological operations.

These operations can be anything from messing with people's minds to swaying them in one direction or another.

I often think the Bible is the best PSYOPS manual ever written.

"The first shall be last and the last shall be first" is just one example.
