I'm curious...How large of a computer does someone need to run a website like this.  Has to be larger than a desktop.  Its obvious I'm not a computer geek.

You can have a "Web Page" (site) in your own home computer (I think), you have to "serve" the page into the Internet, but I think that most Web sites are hosted somewhere other than on your own computer, "Cyber Space" probably "lives" in "memory" probably in on hard drives and maybe or maybe not co-shared with "Ram" memory, well at least on the ram memory of the people who "visit" the Internet.

I am not sure, but I think that those places are called "Servers", maybe they "serve" Web pages.

Thru the years I have had on and off a simple Web page somewhere, but at this time I don't, making a simple Web page is an easy thing to do, the Lottery Post is probably very far from being a "simple" Web site.

Todd's Web site the Lottery Post wasn't of course always as it is right now, it has evolved it is a lot more complicated than it first was.

I guess your face is up his butt too. LP has an about page but no, shed rather brown nose too. Whatever happened to talking about numbers??? Nowadays, it's just a bunch of nonsense topics and people who can't get over their view count but should let the thread just die already. For the sake of LP, get back to numbers.

Your post was kind of hard to understand (I guess English isn't your strong point)  but I believe I got the gist of it.  OK, so why don't you talk numbers?  Start a topic chrissy.

There's a lot of discussion of numbers. However, there is certainly a lack of focus with many threads digressing into inane topics, and/or worse arguments. It seems the forums could be far more productive.

Despite the forum flaws, LP is far more popular than I'd initially thought. Checked both Alexa and Quantcast, and both indicate LP is around the top 2000 most visited site with nearly 2,000,000 unique visitors per month. That's an amazing accomplishment. Todd is doing well Smile

In regards to hardware, many would be surprised to learn their desktop computer at home could potentially run a site like this. I say potentially, because a very visited site utilizing database(s) needs much redundancy (ie. web facing servers, database servers, etc with multiple hard drives / SSD in each) to maintain data integrity and to serve visitors in a timely manner. Plus additional protection from hackers and distributed denial of service attacks (ddos) utilizing third party services, such as Cloudflare to proxy inbound traffic.

In a nutshell, little as two physical servers (virtualization muddies the waters, but referring to actual hardware) could be sufficient to run a site like this, plus utilizing Cloudflare and/or other DDOS protection. The biggest costs, excluding administration, is bandwidth, ddos protection (in some instances), and backups (often neglected; doing it right with dedicated hardware and off-site rotation is pricey).

As for value, I'd estimate LP is worth a few million dollars minimum, and possibly more depending on its financials. LP is probably leaving money on the table based on the numerous google ads I see. Directly sold ads tend to be more profitable, but not always practical given the effort involved; some advertisers only buy through ad networks. All in all, LP has a lot going for it. Todd has done better than most of us - he, in effect, with LP, has hit the lottery! Smile

Will that cruise include a trip to the Corvette museum in Bowling Green?

I've been telling my colleagues for years how Lottery Post is a great venue to gauge what players are saying. I'm a believer!

That's a quote found in this thread but I sort of doubt they meant by "gauging what players are saying" is not in topics like this and several others.

Speaking of sinkholes, the Corvette museum is not far from Mammoth Cave and after filing in the sinkhole, they decided to create a cave in exhibition.
