So I'm in Tennessee this week and the news has been all the buzz with the 20 Powerball winners of the 400 million something. Co-workers at a probably multi-million dollar company, seems like they take home decent paychecks and probably already have all the creature comforts they need.

Not to sound like a poor sport, but that just iggs me a little bit. For all the people in the poor state of Tennessee, not to mention the entire country who probably prayed and spent their baby milk or medication money on the Powerball hoping for a win, didn't get it.

This is like a common scenario it seems with the big multi-state lotteries. And it makes me wonder if the conspiracies really have some merit. Now granted, the ones who won the 400 Mil did say they played lottery pools all the time "not expecting to win." So they had to have lost many, many times. But that's the way it always seems. Even when I was watching the show, "my big lottery dream home" or whatever, it was already people who already had money who won...and were just prospering on top of prospering.

I haven't seen a list of every single big jackpot winner out there, but it seems like the person who's down on their luck, really needing a big lotto win doesn't get it. It's almost leading me to believe I won't get the big win I need because I need it so much, and the needy never seem to get it. Only the "hard-working" blue collar workers who need to pay off their mortgage, not the struggling middle age person who can't find a job, much less afford a mortgage. Or the student who didn't finish college and is behind on student loans and stuck trying to finish their degree.

Doesn't it just piss you off? Guess the best way is to avoid playing as 1 person said on here, "predatory" lotto games. But even still for me, 11 months strong and haven't won more than $24 off a draw game. But, I'm still keeping faith and playing faithfully...

And the other thing that gets me when people like this win: the general consensus/misconception is that playing the lottery is for those bad at math, looking for handouts, tax on the stupid, etc. And it feels true until you win...but it's like the ones who truly are needing a handout or bad at math or stupid don't seem to win it lol. So it's like yeah...all that is true, but we're going to let the hard-working SMART people win it. HAHA. In your face :(

Maybe their energy draws winning? Just thinking that perhaps their "life" is going better and that they win the lottery on top of it may be a result of positive thinking and actions in other areas of their life. In other words, the win is just a continuation of them bringing positive energy into their lives. When you're down and out, you carry negativity into all aspects of your life. Especially where luck is concerned.

This was not the first time they played. They kept playing through the losses until they got lucky and won. Just keep playing until you win. I try to always have a lottery ticket. Persist, don't give up.

It's been several years, so I don't remember the details, but there was a guy in N. Dakota, maybe S. Dakota, that was going to lose his farm, house, and he won MM or PB. Another guy that worked at a convenience store, so you know he didn't make much money, bought 5 lines for PB, won millions. The TV station and lottery officials were already at the store to do a story about it and he showed up. He wasn't even sure he won. And, who can forget Marie and "Hot Sauce"? She had nothing, and she hit millions. And these folks that just won aren't rich. They may have a good job, but that doesn't mean they're rich.

So, you're just focusing on the negative, and feeling sorry for yourself.

I've been playing for over 30 years and haven't won a jackpot. I still keep trying because I never know when it may be my time.

If you have negative feelings you attract negative things. These people are no different than you. Instead of looking at the bad side look at the positive side 20 people won a jackpot. I am happy about that fact. I am happy these people were playing each week and their dreams come true. It gives me hope that I too can win the jackpot. There is enough for everyone your time will come soon.

1. Life isn't fair.
2. Most people have selective memories.
3. Plenty of people who barely have a pot to piss in have won, including some of the most famous winners.
4. It's possible that people who already have more money spend more on tickets, which would give them a better chance of winning. That's probably more true for really large jackpots, where some people spend $100 and more.
5. People generally don't want to stand in front of the media and say their life suks, so some people who win may not be doing as well as it sounds.
6. The reason you almost certainly won't win is that even if you spend $10,000 a year on PB tickets you're unlikely to live/play long enough to bring your odds much above 1 in 1000.

True, true. I agree with everyone.

Though to be clear, I'm not so much feeling sorry for myself or being negative. I'm just speaking in general. Most big national jackpot wins seem to be people who aren't really doing too bad. At the same time, I may be getting unrealistically impatient...as like one poster, 30 YEARS and no jackpot is probably quite common. Though, I couldn't see myself going that long.

I dont play Powerball so I'm not really igged or jealous about it. I've played it maybe 2-4 times this year and only began when the news buzzed about it being $1 billion. That was when my lotto addiction began. Thanks to the media.

To me, it's a conspiracy, if even a subtle one. The state's want people to have hope and spend money on a losing proposition, the PB and MM. What if everytime a state won a jackpot, people all got a refund of their lotto money for that day if you played?

As as for positively breeding the same and negativity bringing the same...I can only agree with that so much as sometimes things take awhile to get positive and your faith wanes. HOWEVER, earlier this month I was joyfully optimistic when I sat down at a few slot machines in Vegas. Just for fun, I let my senses lead me, without questioning, to the right machine. I was with a friend who didn't seem to think the machines would pay out. He lost each time, but I won double or 5X my money on 3 different machines...and left when I felt the time was right.

Please everyone pray for me and my family that I hit 1st or 2nd prize jackpot before next April!

llinois lottery, 1984 (way before multi state games), a printer in Chicago won $43,000,000. He said he was going top keep working but that didn't last too long.

If you watch The Lottery Changed My Life shows on TLC there was another guy in Illinois who didn't have a car and ask a friend for a ride to the lottery office to claim his winnings.

You have only been playing a few months!! Be patient! I found some old tickets today from 1996 when I was going through some old boxes in my office. I am still playing the same numbers!!

Sorry, I don't believe in using prayer to win a lottery. I won't use it for myself and I certainly can't use it for anyone else.

It doesn't matter when people contact the "jackpot envy" bug. There is no known cure, but some people grow out of it after a couple years, but others never do.

Sorry, I don't believe in using prayer to win a lottery. I won't use it for myself and I certainly can't use it for anyone else.

I agree with your prayer analogy. If it actually worked there would be an awful lot of worshippers who won.

I don't have a career at all. Never did. Things happen. I am always on the move in different places in the Philadelphia area. Okay so they won. that is cool and good for them.

If you won $24 hey its $24. A month and a half ago I won $10 on two numbers. Months before I won $25.

The last powerball drawings on the last wed if I had the pb number I would have won $110 more dollars. No one said it was easy.

Then again I don't play that much. Some people are good and some people aren't that great.

As far as I know it these people are set for life even though 20 people. If they actually play their cards right and figure out the principal and interest they will be in the good path.
