One of the reasons why I stopped playing powerball and mega millions is because of the odds. If the odds are 1 in 200 million, would I have won even if I bought a 1,000 tickets?

Smart lottery winners form trust to claim their winnings. They send an attorney to the lottery headquarters to claim the prize in trust, so that ONLY the name of the trust is revealed. And they tell NO ONE, especially relatives.

If you ever win a lottery and you are single, the only person you should ever marry is someone who was truly in love with you BEFORE you won the jackpot!

People can talk about strategies and gimmicks all they want, but unless your ticket actually matches at least 5 of those 6 balls, you are just another person who tried to win a game yet ultimately failed.

NY used to have a game called Sweet Million. Odds were I think around 1:4,000,000 for a jackpot win. Every so often I would catch a guy in the store that would take over one of the machines and buy 1,000 quick picks in cash. My gf at the time asked him what's the most he ever won? He said $500 once, which was the 2nd prize. I also saw a guy once buy $600 of lotto tickets , you know the actual NY Lotto game, and walk away with $3. I'm serious. Take your chances but don't be a fool. Every now and then I tell myself I'm gonna buy $100 take 5 quick picks, but I never do. I would like to see what happens though, probably the same as the rest in that sense, lol.

Yea, part of making a 'living' at playing is reducing the money it takes to 'hit consistently'. Which I think it what alot of people are using this site for, and why they argue so much about the systems, ideas, ect that are posted here. Everyone wants a way to spend $1 and win THOUSANDS if not millions consistently.

I've heard of people buying a thousand dollars worth of tickets, but I never saw anyone actually do it. People think they can make a significant dent in the odds, but they cant. It costs more money than most people have to do that.

Part of the problem is that people simply don't realize just how big a number like 1 million really is. It doesn't matter what it is, but if you really do have one million of something, then you've got one helluva a lot of them. So if one million of anything is a lot, then imagine how big 200 million of them is.

BTW - as I recall, the odds to win a $500 dollar second place prize in Sweet Million were approximately 1 in 18,000. So if the guy who bought a thousand dollars worth of quick picks won $500 once, he was very lucky! The odds are saying that he should have only won one $500 prize if he had bought $18,000 worth of quick picks.

Buy $100 worth of Take5 quick picks? You'll win some Free Plays, maybe a 3 out of 5, but that's it. G5

Play Smart! That's IF there is such a thing as playing smartly!!

This is one of the most truthful statements I've seen made on this site in quite some time. The lottery is no different than trying to start any given business in that it takes money to make money compiled with a successful plan (system)...plain and simple. I'm talking about the small games here. Personally, when I see where a player has won on a straight or even a box hit with only a couple bucks or so, I know immediately that it's not repeatable with 'intent.' I'm not knocking the win at all but, I understand what goes into actually being able to win with some consistency. It ain't easy and it costs. Good post.

Small games, frequent wins, and regular payouts 'cause.....

There are seven days in the week...'Someday' isn't one of them.

They were probably busy going over their lottery pool so they could hit the jackpot and retire just like everyone else tries to.

Before you play there are 2 choices to make. Low sum or high sum and consecutive pair or no consecutive pair. Choose correctly and you go from 120 combos down to 30. Not a bad starting point.

When I win a cool million in powerball or mega millions I would like to try other Oregon lotto games on a regular basis like pick 4 and win for life and lucky lines. But for now it is megabucks, mega millions and powerball.-weshar75

If he does that around 10 times and wins, he could walk away with over $1 Million. Do you know of anyone whose actually done that? From my experience, you would have to take the time, effort, and a lot of money into playing the game. You will only win by how much you put into the game. Winners of Pick 3 usually know when to get into the game, as well as knowing when to quit playing for a while.

The lottery officials have become quite greedy when it comes to the Powerball and MegaMilions. They made it difficult to win in order to increase the Jackpot to their desired payout amount. Everything is done by computer to ensure that no one has the winning numbers. The live drawings are just for show. There was a time when a lot of folks won either game. And this was before the Lottery Officials decided to expand the game to other states.

Just run a bunch of QP's from Lottery Post's quick picks to test that out. The results are usually close to what would happen if you bought the tickets for real.

I don't look at the odd of winning the Jackpot. I look at the overall odds of winning anything (refund of money or greater). Mega millions has overall odds of 1 in 14.71 or 6.8%. Powerball is 1 in 24.9 or 4%. So in the simplistic terms, expect 4-7+ dollars for each 100$ you spend on the 2 games. Meanwhile, for 20$ scratchers (in illinois) the overall odd are about 40% (1$ tickets are at about 20%). As nice as winning 100million+ might be you have to ask if it's worth blowing 90+% of the money while waiting for the big "one" or would you be happy with losing 60% or less of the money while waiting to win 3-5 million that will make most people comfortable.

Now if you have a "system" of playing that bumps a game to an over all odds of 80 or 90% then the money from the higher match rewards will get you 100+% ROI. Thing is how do you turn a system with a natural overall odds of less then 10% to 80% or even 50%???

I wrote a couple programs to test my systems for Mega Millions and the illinois twice daily game (Lucky Day), I never really got over maybe 1% of the posted odds and is insignificant. For the Illinois Lotto, 13% over all odds I have a couple systems that brig it to about 20%. If it is accurate, even at 20%, it's still alot of money lost waiting for the "big one".

Very true.

While I play all the jackpot games, I do like All or Nothing and Texas Triple Chance because of the overall odds. I may not make a profit on those games, but I do win back more money on them than any other game. Everybody likes to get a bone thrown to them once in a while.
