Here's what could be happening.

Someone at that store is deliberately printing tickets and trying to pass them off as mistake tickets.

They are hoping someone will buy them even if the they are expired and non-winners.

Any tickets that are not purchased by a customer must be paid for by the store owner.

Store employees or even store owners use this ploy to play the lottery without paying for a ticket.

Given this person tried to sell it to you, tells us they wanted to get rid of that ticket because it was a non-winning ticket.

How do we know?

It's happened to us.

I asked to buy a mistake ticket, not knowing its status.

Later while in the car, we looked and the ticket was for a draw date that already passed and was a non-winner.

In the past we have had no problems with buying mistake tickets.

However, we noticed at the store we frequent, there was an up tick in the number of mistake tickets.

The store was a new place that was opened a few years ago and had been going there pretty much every day before work.

Well, being the inquisitive person we are, we sent an e-mail to both the Kwik Trip store corporate headquarters and the Minnesota Lottery asking if it's normal for a store to have so many mistake tickets.

I did get a reply from the Minnesota Lottery saying they'd look in to it.

Something must of happened.

That Kwik Trip store appears to have had a change in employment.

Also, the store had a holder/sign near the lottery terminal that said, "Mistake Tickets Go Here".

Last check this morning, we didn't see it there anymore.

We'll check again later today.

Stopped in at that Kwik Trip again.

Nope.

No more mistake tickets or at least we could see.

Stopped by another Kwik Trip store.

Didn't see any mistake tickets in the usual place.

Someone must of put the kibosh on that ploy.

We'll monitor some other places around here.

If any store or clerk is pulling some with you, then you can bet your last nickel they are doing it with other customers too. A lot of people only play the jackpot games when the jackpot is way up there and nothing else, so they are clueless and they are easily ripped off.

Us more seasoned players should not put up with that crap. A threat to file a complaint with the lottery office may straighten them up real quick. Even if you don't actually do it, at least they will know not to mess with you in the future.

List Pick 3 singles by low sums, high sums. Separate each sum row by consecutive pair and non consecutive pair combos. These 3 pair groups. 14 17 47, 25 28 58, 36 39 69 are in 63 combos. 54 combos do not have them. Which sums do the 3 pair groups appear and not appear? Look at root sum groups 147, 258, 369. Play accordingly.

Sounds like he made a mistake and was just reading whatever the amount said. When that happens, because they can't refund those particular tickets, cash 5 mega pb, they just stick it somewhere or ask if someone wants it or not. To be completely honest about those guys in the stores, most of them do not play, and they don't care or pay any thought or mind to what people play outside of what the machines say is owed. If they make a mistake they admit it.

Just a FYI. Last week I went to Idaho for a ten advance Hot Lotto, two of the clerks didnt know how to do an advance ticet and the woman didnt want to make a mistake so she called the supervisor. He made a mistake and printed out a ten draw ticket for the same day. The woman said that was why she didnt want to try to do it. She showed me a "Raffle" ticket someone made and it was up by the lottery machine for sale. The supervisor figured it out, got me my correct ticket. She asked him what happens with the "mistake" tickets and they get added to some list. They did not put the ticket up for sale, at least not while I was there.

What caused us to contact company headquarters and the lottery wasn't the fact we were sold a non-winning ticket.

We can afford to lose a buck.

It was because when we went back on a different day and asked for the displayed mistake ticket, we asked the cashier to check the date on the ticket.

It Was Past Its Draw Date and A Non-Winner.

Yet, that same ticket was displayed like any other ticket in the hopes that someone would buy it.

Here's the interesting part.

The cashier seemed a little surprised we'd ask the draw date on the ticket, almost flustered.

The cashier, in a hurry, just toss it aside and tried to brush it off like it was nothing.

But, It's not nothing, the store has to pay for that ticket.

That's when began to suspect something ain't right.

We smiled and left.

If the machine said I owed that much he would have had to done the cash 5 with mine then...I should have looked to see if they were qp's or not because if they were not he would have had to punch in all of the numbers & it did not take but a few seconds to run 2 slips so I'm pretty sure he already had the ticket. I wish now I had of look at it close to see the time it was ran and the date on it.

...if he had not cleared out the machine from the last transaction it could have added extra $5 to it but then there was the ticket so that proves he stuck it in with mine to say I owed it....also he messed up when he said he would have to pay for it before I even saw it.

Sometimes if they make a mistake on a ticket they can't cancel. The store will try to sell it to another player. My husband is so paranoid that it might be the winner. He always buy the "mistake" tickets. Most of us have read stories about this happening. Many years ago, A guy working at Publix made a mistake on a $1.00 Lotto ticket. He was trying to sell this ticket to everyone. An employee bought it and won the jackpot.

Previously it was mentioned that the date and time is printed on the ticket. If yours and the extra ticket had the same date/time, then he printed it by mistake. If the time was older, he was trying to get rid of a mistake or loser ticket. If the datetime was the same, I would say it was a accident, because I see no gain for him to print extra mistake tickets and try selling them without checking it.

Now here in Illinois we have the "lucky day lotto" its a 5/45 twice a day drawing. It has an "EZMatch" feature (1$ extra), that per ticket, on the top has 5 random numbers and a 2$-5,000$ prize next to each number, then on the bottom it has the numbers you picked. I assume, a dishonest vendor could print a couple of these tickets before hand. They can see if any are instant winners and if not, swap them out with a winning ticket after it's printed for the customer. Of course the swapped out ticket could still win after the drawing, but it was not a confirmed winner before the drawing.

If you forget to pencil the .50 cent box, or any specific box detail store will play 1.00 a ticket. It happens.

I feel sure he had the ticket already because when he handed me the tickets he turned them over like he did not want me to look at them right away because he had slipped that one in with mine.

I had to point out to him I only handed him 2 play slips and he had those printed correct.

Of course he already knew that!

Did he think I was that dumb...buy $4 worth & owe $9!
