Sorry but I just don't get it.

Let's face it, regardless of the method of number selection when the numbers you played are the same ones drawn that win a jackpot it is nothing but pure blind luck.

I just don't get why some here are so curious to know.

Comments anyone?

Currently: Was it a self pick or quick pick?

Fast forward a decade: Was it a self pick or a quick pick, played by a human or a robot?

Those who run the lotteries love it when players look for consistency in something that's designed not to have any. So many systems, so many theories, so few jackpot winners.

There is one and only one 'proven' system, and that is to book the action. No matter the game, let the players pick their own losers.

Then there are the yo-yo's that want an "investigation" everytime there is a winner.

"It's fixed because that state always wins"!!!

Probably just pessimism about potential rigging. I don't think it's all too crazy, considering that the lottery has been successfully rigged before and was going on for several years before that guy was caught. But at the same time, I don't think there is enough of any unusual trending to get worked up over just self pick vs quick pick alone. Many people play quick picks, and so quick picks tend to have a much higher representation with winners. This makes sense. Yet, at times when those all-low-numbers anomalies hit, often it aligns for someone playing birthdays or whatever, like that fairly recent big PB jackpot that went to the lady playing her sons' birthdays, if I remember it right. This isn't so strange as many people also play sentimental dates, so this makes sense, too. I also think there probably are some times when someone was using some kind of strategy, and then it combined with strong luck, and ta-da. Like that statistics lady. Myself, when I try to use strategies based on probability theory, I find that it helps, but it's a matter of losing money more slowly, or rather extending the lifespan of my monthly or weekly bankroll. Like if the chances of winning any prize are 1:9, then I might see an upward trend of 2:9 or 3:9 over time. But that's still losing money overall, just means I get to play a little more on the same bankroll. If I won, it would still boil down to a ton of luck.

With so many players coming to LP to claim they are picking their own numbers and winning, makes many players curious about how many others are doing the same and wondering if they might do the same with software.

The lottery in certain states is: .............................

I am going with racist orrrrrr a cis-phobe or bigoted towards my tickets....because I lost.........Seems like I have heard this tactic utilized in the not so distant past... I will just stick with that story because it's so true. That should win me favors because I deserve the jackpot win all to myself..

There are a many aspects of lottery play that are interesting to a lot of folks.
Whether or not a jackpot was won with a 'self pick' ticket is one of those 'nice to know' as opposed to a 'need to know,' such as the winning numbers.
A lot of folks are happy letting the RNG in the nearest lottery terminal determine if they win or lose.
However, there are many folks, such as myself, who never buy a Quick Pick.
I have a system that I use for all my plays. If I win, it justifies all the time and effort I put in finding the numbers that had the best chance of winning. If I lose, well, there will be another drawing in a few days.
In any case, I take full responsibility for the results. I can't blame anyone else.
Self picking is a two-edge sword.
If I was lucky enough to make all the right choices, and then brag about it with a post, my mail box would overflow with one main question - how did you do it?
I would then have to make a choice - ignore the queries or advise everyone to standby while I get someone to write a software program that they could buy at a reasonable price.
This is what Richard Lustig is doing.
Why would someone who won a multi-million dollar jackpot try to win a second time?
You never know the depth of greed. Some people are never satisfied.
Bottom line - I want to know how a jackpot was won and I rely on the lottery to make that information public. I wish they would do it for all the games.

Well just a few days ago the California Lottery delayed the results for Fantasy5 for almost an hour and a half. It was very suspicious.

My mind immediately wandered and ruminated that their Virtual Ball Machine was churning out numbers that weren't favorable to them so they kept at it for...well that vast ammount of time trying to get a more convenient draw of five numbers.

Jerks eh?

Here's my theory on why so few jackpot winners write books or try to sell systems;
1. They know it was pure luck
2. Once coming into that kind of money they're a wee bit more self focused and don't have time for hoopla or shenanigans.
The of course you have hype artists like the guy who promotes his material with "I won the lottery 7 times" which implies 7 jackpots but that's not the case.

I agree 110%. Maybe that is why I never get mad or disappointed if I lose. The failure or success rested with me.

Back in the days before the Internet when a lot of business was done by mail the most likely person to send a bad check to a seller was someone ordering gambling information. Not only did they want to beat the house, they wanted to 'beat' the seller out of the price too. Not only do they want to know how to win they want the information for free.

Speaks volumes.

Kind of relasted......I knew two guys who always wanted to know the winning numbers, how many winners, etc.....The Illinois lottery has an in state 800 number that provides this information. When they started their where-how many routine I would just tell them the number and all I got was deeer in the headlights looks from them.

One day I finally said, "Oh I see you want to know all this but don't want to make a phone call". I guess they had a bad case of the 'for me'. Do it for me.

Sometimes it's nice to know one can still make their own luck instead of luck providing the win.

When I buy a quick pick or scratch off, winning is pure luck. When I've had a hand is selecting and wheeling the numbers the win is because I built the ticket and a ton of luck.

On the other side of the * Coin- CT, is seeing plenty of lottery players frequenting the store that sells the winning ticket for months on end.Why? In the hope that lady luck is " hanging around" to drop whatever little she has in her bag of tricks on another patron. Stack made a good case for why QP's have more winners. However, how many players ditch their self picks knowing full well, that given the data, they are at a " disadvantage" in winning? Since the machine has one purpose, and one only, does that make the machine smarter? If you and l have been picking our own numbers and losing, is it because we " thinking" too much? When all is said and done, l know this much, the moment those balls are dropped, it is anyone jackpot to win or lose!
