Personally, don't care how high it goes. I typically play for the $2 million prize (with the multipliers). If I hit the whole thing, cool. Even the $2 mil after taxes guarantees instant retirement for me at my age. The odds of hitting second prize is less than half of hitting the Texas Lotto jackpot. $3 cost? Whatever. Don't care about that either. Heck, there's scratchoffs that cost $20 that only pay $1 million.

Who here would turn down $2 million? Or with Mega Millions, up to $5 million?

Exactly what "some" are you referring to?

It's not as easy as it may seem to win it...

Now, what's probably happening is serious analysist, maybe such as yourself and others, chase some jackpots into the hands of some unsuspecting smuck, because, as far fetched as it may sound,..Lottery Officials would rather someone without Math or analytical skills win it, than the other way around...

There are always the few people who must not be confident about their ability to share the money or donate to suitable charities and think that instead of a $1 billion jackpot we should have 500 jackpots of $2 million.

Maybe players are just getting more patient. Players vote for bigger jackpots with their money, but the bigger jackpots require steeper odds and/or a higher ticket price. For any given jackpot amount sales are lower when the cost and/or odds go up, so the result is that we get bigger jackpots that take longer to grow.

What's happening is that the delusions and paranoia around here are getting so thick that it's actually slowing down the page loads. But, since you're such an expert on probability, what's the probability that the advertised jackpot will roll to $750 to $800 million and then roll again to give us another billion+ jackpot?

The Probability of what YOU seek, is not what I'm intrested in, but just off the top of my experience...That probability is between 0 & 1...!!

Sounds like if your pages are loading slow, you may wanna get a faster computer, or hand-held computer (aka a Cellphone)...

Picking numbers after the draw? They can tell who uses analysis to pick numbers vs schmucks who use QP's?

How about this number....1 in 292,201,338.....

That might be the best reason jackpots roll into multi-millions, or even a billion.

Ok... Let's put this improperly associated word to rest...Everyone knows how I am fond of simple analogies....

Let's say an employee that operates a cash register, has counted their drawer receipts... takes a lunch break with their boss, comes back and discovers funds missing from their drawer( obviously via Math)

So?.. Does that make that employee a Theft "Conspiritor"?. for saying that funds are missing... whether it's $10. missing or say it's a bank , and $10,000 is missing ... or 6..8% of a Billion is missing...after all , the employee used Math to determine the crime..!!.. or would you say, the more complex the Math is, the more likely the claim is untruthful?....

Then you have this. I'm sure with an at least $300,000,000 profit in 19 days, I don't think they care who or how many wins. This is at a $2.00 per ticket price sale so factor in the power play, you can add to it accordingly. If a third of the sales had the power play option you can add another $63+ million to the take in profit. Pretty sure that leaves them enough starting jackpots for the next 7 draws without figuring in the power play money. If needed. You add in what the state's (where applicable) and feds take in when taxes are due, that's a LOT of money per year made by no less than 2 very rich already groups. It's why it's the only real state to state legal to play, form of gambling. No winners, no players, no millions per draw made. I'd say a jackpot winner every draw, they'd get into losing money fairly fast with only an average of $10 million profit for starters, but I'm sure there is plenty in the pot to take care of that. For a little while at least. They are covered for a few consecutive jackpots if they need to be.

I saw your figures...they're Stats... meaning, that has already happened...Probability Math informs one of what's about to happen (if properly framed), with the same degree of accuracy as it sorts Stats in the rear (past)...THAT'S what I'm chewin on..
