Why is all the extra money going to education and not 50% for homeless programs and housing? Education isn't getting better. Putting money in homeless programs and housing will make a bigger difference as schools will be funded no matter what and those in K-12 probably already have places to live? Internet also can make education obsolete as if there is a desire you can learn whatever you want online when you have a home to stay in.

I'm pretty sure the idea is to educate children so they won't be homeless adults.

Each state decides how it uses lottery profits, and not all states put the money toward solely toward education. If you want to change your state's laws, you could start by contacting your state legislature. Or even better, run for office yourself.

Is there a correlation between spending more money in education resulting in less homelessness? There are more homeless people today than say 50 years ago when public education and college education cost way less. If you force everyone to get college degrees in order to get any job, is this truely efficient? I don't think ducation budget has any influence on future homelessness. You can solve homelessness with lottery money to improve people's lives. Some homeless people have mental illnesses. Will giving them a harvard education solve their housing needs when they have mental illnesses and are unable to work or do you think by giving them housing and food they would appreciate that more? Will spending 1 trillion dollars per student education mean there will be no homeless people? Or will it just mean you need to spend 1 trillion dollars to educate someone as a prerequisite for even working at Target? The more money a state spends on public education does not mean the more educared the students will be. Maybe teachers and admin will get a bunch more money and regional schools will have shinny new sports buildings (Arizona State University maybe?) but will students be any more educated?

Poor people spend more of their money as a percentage on lottery. Why isn't the lottery helping poor people or even the people poorer than they are (homeless people)? Lottery goes to education as in all education rich or poor, but why spend lottery money to fund rich neighborhood school systems at all? I would be for if it funded poor school systems to catch up to rich school systems and not give any lottery money to rich neighborhoods with million dollar houses.

I would feel much better wasting money on lottery if the proceeds all went to help homeless and the poor because at least you know it helps people survive and may change lives for the better.

Some people become 'homeless' because of gambling on the lottery. I think that the problem with any of these many programs is that it's hard to know if they really help the people that need them. There's so much corruption.

The poor play to try to escape poverty. Why not have lottery proceeds go to help the poor as the odds of winning is almost zero. On the other hand, the rich play for entertainment and not for escape.

Great idea! While you're giving the homeless person the ticket invite them to come live with you so they won't be homeless!

There's an incredibly simple solution. Stop losing money by buying lottery tickets and just give 100% of what you used to spend on lottery tickets to help the homeless.

And FWIW, the lottery could take in $50 billion a year and it wouldn't increase the spending for various causes by one cent. All it does is change the accounting records. You don' think you have more money if you put some of it in your right pocket and some in your left pocket, do you?

It doesn't seem to be working. The money might be better spent on mental health if we want to reduce homelessness.

You can always donate money yourself to a homeless shelter.

If you go to any major city, you will find someone on a street corner asking for money.

All that money comes from the players and should go back to the players after deducing costs of organization (rake). That means that also taxes should not be in it. - If it was really clean, all money would come from the players and go back to the players.

If you want to give money to homeless and poor, then don't spend on the lottery, but help them straight. You even may get money back from your state. You'll pay less taxes.

Internet is not working. It is full of african to muslimic and political propaganda to lies and manipulations, ads over information. On the technical side it mostly is poor too. Don't forget that it all costs money, servers to user devices. ... For the next 50 years I don't want to see any brown to black african anymore. I had enough. Send them home to Africa, don't suck them in for some church ritual or muslimic jihad or colonialisation... . ...
