it happened again ! A while back I was at Publix heading to the ticket machine when an old guy and me almost collided to buy tickets .. I asked him to go first ..."age before beauty" :) ..... he bought ONE ticket, scratched it standing there while I bought a couple of the same game ... think it was the old 100X .... anyway he got a $1K claimer ..... my 3 were duds .....
This morning I'm at a different Publix near me ...... similar senario .... I'm walking this time to the counter to get a couple $50 ticks ......this old woman with a shopping bag walks to the counter and we almost bump into each other ... I let her go first ... she buys 2 $50 tickets and scratches them at the side of the counter while I buy one $50 ticket and 5 Madness ...... all of a sudden she hollers "I won $5K!" ........ I move over to where she is standing and ask gee whiz .. can I see it ? She holds the ticket tight with both hands..... sure enough ..... in the middle of the top row is a stand alone $5,000 ........ just like the one CAPE had, but in a different spot ...... she shows the clerk and askes to cash it .... he tells her she has to either drive to the Lot office in Tampa OR fill out a claim form and mail it in ..... she tells the clerk she is going to let her grandson help her figure this out ... meanwhile I advise her to SIGN and fill out the back side ........ to be safe
Lesson learned ? No more letting someone take my spot as a 'kindness gesture' ....... my tickets brought me one $10 on a Madness .....yeah ... age before beauty .......
So I've been out of state for a bit and got back just a couple days ago. My kinda similar story (albeit much less $ at stake) unfolded when I was at the grocery store (not the closest Publix market to me but one nearby) getting some stuff to restock after being away.
Well, I'm at the automated checkout and am figuring I'll mark being back home by getting 2 $50 500X from the Lotto machine when done, one each from the two books they have in the machine.
...Well, the self checkout machine I go to keeps flubbing up (e.g. how are avocados "not found" in the UPC system?!!)...and the gal has to come over a few times to fix...so I'm delayed. Well, in the meantime someone buys a ticket from each book in the machine and wins on both, a $100 and a $500!! So I congratulate him and move on...
Then, on the way home I stop at the Cocoa Beach Winn-Dixie just down the road 'cause I like their Meat Dept, and when checked out I take a gander at their Lotto machine...which, like Publix, also had a couple slots for the $50 500X, so I get one of each. Lo and Behold both are wins!!...one $100 and a $500!! Guess it must have been meant to be. I'll post the $500 on the FL thread when I get a moment.

Hi Skeptic, its good to know there's good people out there, respecting elders . I'd take that kind of kindness you shown any day, so much hate in the world these days. You definetly deserve the top jackpot prize or the one below it, maybe they saving them for you by taking the smaller jackpots. I guess you got to live long too so when you get to there age that top prize hits*hopefully sooner though.
Did you give up scratching for the day after the 2nd time? I'd probably go to some random place with nobody playing and scratch a bit, gotta revenge that heartbreak someway. It sucks the most hearing about it, especially in your case. I rather not hear it at all.
Other than that i enjoy a good scratch session story, thank you for sharing, waiting for a good ending next time. If you were second before them go ahead n buy, i wont judge you either way.
Yesterday, I go to my regular spot and i dont know if im starting to show up on some ban list or something becuase i always get a weird look from the cashiers before im buying. I usually redeem about 5-10 tickets and as i was waiting in line, they make eye contact and say the ticket redemption is down. So plan B i gotta use cash, i use 100 bill, i spend about $50, They sell me with an upset look. I go back for round 2 with another 100 bill, kind of just to mess with them as well, but they got me first they flipped over the sign and i knew they weren't going to sell tickets no more. I took it personal maybe its tied to the machine being down or they randomly stop selling for a couple hours in a day. I've seen it before at this place before they usally say they'd open it after an hour. Ruined my scratch session. Times like this they should just add a ticket machine so they don't have to sell in person or do both. It wasn't all bad though, I hit $100
Hi Fun, totally up to you on this and pros and cons are endless, but if you're cashing in tickets totaling in the hundreds or more try tipping the gals a few $, or buying them even as little as a couple $1 tickets. If your experience is anything like mine their attitude will do a total 180 and they'll try to find a way to serve you rather than try to find a way not to.

Hey Fun, sweet $100 win...gotta love a clean-looking ticket with the winning spot and not much of anything else uncovered...
Hey Cape welcome back, hope you doing well, i wish wins were more one in done myself since so much scratch off waste. If there big numbers i won't complain, though.
Thanks for the tipping advice, never thought to do that. I guess my mentality was stuck on the customer is always right and people just suck in general 'til proven otherwise. Probably it wasn't only me but some other player gave them a hard time, ran into a dude buying 2 sets of 10 - $10 tickets(im thinking CA doesn't pay that well to do that, but i could be wrong he doing it for a reason). If the situation is right i'll give it a try.... need some big wins soon. Do you got a rule of thumb of how much to tip? just go with feeling? do you end up being a repeat tipper for the same people?
$100 wins - the only game that pays me, lately been having that $100 touch.

$50 win - Bonus Game 3 hit. Usually that type of game is only on the $1 tickets. I enjoy playing it on a higher priced ticket. $10 tickets don't do that well for me, ill try another day...
Ran into a fellow player scratching next to me saying scam as he scratched. He kept asking if im winning but i just say its fun 2 lose(i was losing but made it back with my last resort game)

Hi Fun, really meant to get back sooner on this but was waylaid by a nasty cold...better now though.
if I'm at one of my usual grocery stores and am cashing into the hundreds I'll usually do a $5, esp if it's over their advertised limit. I'll also often follow-up and tip the ones who sold me a $500 win or above.
I don't tip at the owner/operator places though, since the lotto commission is essentially going straight to them to begin with. If I have a significant amount to cash I nearly always arrange such at one of my usual owner-operated mini-markets, especially since the ones I use also cash checks so often have the $ on hand.

That's another CA $10 game the likes of which I've never really seen anything like here in FL!...nice $50 win, and great to see you hit a $100 on your old stand by game!
Hope the guy espousing scam next to you at the store appreciates the "Fun to Lose Concept"...I can, is why I scratch my tickets fully rather than just scratch and check the bar code, lol, but I will say it's funner (more fun ) to win. Either way keep the nice wins coming!!

Nice looking $100s there!!
Hi Cape, glad you feeling better. Ill give it a go with the tip with my nearby grumpy spot and thanks for letting me know how much and whom to, didn't think of that about the owner. Yeah i found a check cashing spot for the bigger wins, no complaints there, they went to the safe when i did it.
I agree its much fun to win but i got to trick myself someway when it doesn't happen. Im learning from you to enjoy and scratch my games completely these days(Just started symbol hunting, made scratching so much fun again, im probably late to that party). The player just had a bad scratch session and was chasing on a roll with a longer lose streak then usual. They did have that urgency posture, scratching in the air and standing scratching on the table and a few bar code scratching as well(hogging the ticket machine) , I've been there.
Glad you enjoy seeing the CA variety, got to mix up the loses(or wins in your case).

Thank you very much Cape and Skeptic. Glad you enjoying the ticket design, very easy to play, all it needs is big wins.
Congrats Skeptic on the nice collection of wins($100,$200,$500). How do you chase, do you buy a couple at a time or all at once? Anyway hope that $500 Madness goes well next time, preferably a one and done situation
