That's not precisely what I meant. I meant to make it clear that I am searching forward for a P3 number in about the correct location which contains a pair that agrees with the the pairs that came before. For example, in the case of Connecticut, I's referring to the 4 and the 7 in 475 which are pointed to by the 4 and the 7 above. It's the relative location of the 4 and th 7 that are key to the workup because that's the exact same relative location that the 8 and the 6 and the 0 and the 1 fall in relative to their target numbers, 865 and 012 respectively.

This is sort of hard to explain. I can't wait to start cranking out actual charts so I can show what I mean.

Finally got some quiet time to work on the code. Got frustrated with the rubbish I'd written. Spent the quiet time rewriting the whole thing , so didn't get around to debugging until tonight. Found a few bugs and fixed them and quickly got very encouraging results. Yay! Now I need to find the bug that's keeping the program from handing off the final results correctly, Boo! Then I'll have the core code locked down. Then I'll need to add a module to produce a marked-up chart of board-ready code like Nodda does. Gotta keep up with the Joneses....

I kicked the can down the road a bit and separated the core into two parts, the first of which is complete. Yay! The bad news is that I now have to write the post processing code which I originally envisioned being in the core but now will be another sub that kicks out candidates that don't look like what we are looking for. I'm hoping that will winnow out a lot of data because the core code spits out 1300 candidates. What?!? 1300 candidates? Don't fret, we are looking for triplets of candidate triplets, so that's really a maximum of 433 candidates and the first part of post processing is going to knock the number of candidates way down. I'm hoping we will get a manageable number after the first post - processing loop knocks out the obvious losers like candidates that don't fit the desired pattern of distribution of hits in the frame, candidates for which there are only one or two instances, and so on. 1300 is still a big number. I wouldn't be surprised if we end up with multiple candidates after making a best effort at winnowing. That's an open question to which I'm looking forward to seeing an answer. I still wonder how anybody could possibly have done this by inspection. It just doesn't seem possible.

It's easy to fixate on a solution to a problem and miss the bigger picture. In this case, I fixated on getting the code sorted for looking at a 21 day window of data and was happily running the tests on the data that I had, which was about 21 days for each state. Because I only had about 21 days of data, I didn't think about the fact that what people really want to know is - "What is going to fall today?" In order to get that, I need to back up a week and run the code showing what happened in the three weeks leading up to a week ago, essentially four weeks of data, so that I can back up, run the code retrospectively and then see what might be coming up today based on the location of the pairs and the draw data from the past 6 days.
Oops!

Okay, older and wiser now, I'm tweaking the code to do just that. And now I have enough data for the program to back up and do the analysis on the three weeks of data leading up to a week ago. I also am working on a "summary" report to make it easier for me to see the pairs at a glance.

The reports I've been posting were manually generated from the raw output of my program. They are time - consuming to produce so I've been working on a module to produce board - ready markup code that that tedious job for me. It's been a bit slow going, but got some uninterrupted time today and made some headway on the code. If I can get a little uninterrupted time tomorrow, then I hope I'll have something to show soon.

The problem is that the quantity of raw output from the program is very unpredictable. One day last week there were two charts. No problem, right? The next day there were almost thirty. That's way too many to chart by hand. WAY TOO MANY!!! That's why I decided to code this module to produce board - ready marked up charts.

As I said earlier, I hope to have this ready to go soon so I can post charts in a timely way.

I finally found the time to get the markup module working except for a final piece that I need to add. I didn't really think about this final bit until I got the markup code working and then it became obvious that I had overlooked a piece. Maybe I'll get a little time tomorrow to finish that up. Once I get that done, it should be easy to post charts for the 25 states that hold two-a-day draws because the program now outputs board-ready code that I can just drop into a post.
