I struggle about this. For ex. The other day. I lost $200 and then won $50. The clerk ask me where is my tip?

tell him, here's a tip: quit hounding customers for tips or they'll go to a different store.

The only time I would tip a clerk is if I won a jackpot. Most gas stations or convenient stores won't cash out anything over 100 bucks in my area. I have to take my

300 dollar winners to the large grocery stores.

Monetary tips aren't a thing in Australia. The clerks get paid a decent wage so no, I would never give a store employee any sort of monetary tip.

No, I would not tip the clerk for any win.

For starters, the clerks also do play the lottery and can buy a ticket from the same store they work in - who do they tip when they win anything?

Secondly, I live in a state that allows for anonymous winners, if I win any jackpot, tipping the clerk is as good as laying a trap in full view of the birds, the word gets out as fast as a bush fire. Good luck remaining anonymous after tipping the clerk and good luck with that NDA with the store clerk 🤣🤣🤣

I believe winning the lottery jackpot is a 💯 % factor of luck.

I didn't vote in the poll, because my answer would be a combination of “Sometimes” and “It Depends On How Much I Win.” The “sometimes” part is the relationship I have with the clerk.

I've been buying my tickets primarily at the same convenience store for 20 years or so (because it's convenient!) When I first started going there, there was an elderly gentleman who worked there who sold me my tickets. Over time, we developed a rapport over all things lottery: I would ask about the new scratchers, he'd give me some free plastic ticket holders, etc. All things considered, he looked like he should have been enjoying his retirement, instead of working at a convenience store.

Then one day I hit a $40,000 + jackpot, so I bought a thank you card, put a $100 bill in it, (back then, $100 could buy a lot more) and gave it to him. He opened it up, and looked like he was about to cry. I'll never know what he was going through, but he was very grateful for the tip.

For me, the key to a tip is the rapport/relationship with the clerk. I would never tip some random clerk who just happened to sell me a ticket the time I finally hit it big.

So, pretty much what Anndiva1 said...

How about instead of tipping them IF you win playing the same ticket FOR them?

When we had to go to anothger state to play Powerball I played a ticket for me and one for the clerk in a gas statin in Indiana. The next day and miles away I found out we had both won $110.

Those who run the lotteries love it when players look for consistency in something that's designed not to have any. So many systems, so many theories, so few jackpot winners.

There is one and only one 'proven' system, and that is to book the action. No matter the game, let the players pick their own losers.

I had the same kind of rapport with the people that owned a little c-store a couple miles from my home. Alas, they sold their store and retired (I presume). I don't buy my tix there anymore, I get them at the store where I work which is closer.

Although I've never won a jackpot and I buy tickets anywhere and everywhere, I'm not big on the idea of tipping the clerk. If you want to remain anonymous after a big jackpot win, that's just not going to happen if you tip the clerk.

I used to live near a gas station/convenience store that had sold a MegaMillions $250,000 winner. The owner of the store told me they never found out who won. They were aware that the prize had been claimed because the NY State Lottery Rep informed them that ticket had been cashed. When the store owner first told me about it, my reaction to it was "That's a shame" because I felt whoever had won was too cheap to tip the clerk. It was a few days later that I changed my thinking after I realized why it was very smart on the part of the winner to say nothing to anybody.

I've noticed many elderly people working behind the counter. For some it's a retirement job...something to fill the extra hours of their day. For others it's a necessity. Hope I never find myself in that situation. G5

Exactly,

If the clerk knows you won and asks where his tip is,

I'd ask for what? Doing your job?I'd definitely not be scanning my tickets when he/she are working

or,I bought these tickets somewhere else(Was just scanning them to see how much I won)
