  Just somethiing to think about. If some lottery money goes towards education why when it's back to school time do schools ask for donations of school supplies? 

  In stores that sell school supplies individual teachers even post lists of what they'd like donated.

  Those who run the lotteries love it when players look for consistency in something that's designed not to have any. So many systems, so many theories, so few jackpot winners. 

  

  There is one and only one 'proven' system, and that is to book the action. No matter the game, let the players pick their own losers.

  Administrative bloat. Public schools (like any government agency) can spend unlimited amounts of money if you give it to them. The lottery gives them money, they waste it, and then they come crying to us that the kids don't have paper and pencils. 🙄

  I believe that the government money goes to the physical plant, staff, teachers, food for breakfasts and lunches, and so on. The supplies mentioned are what the parents are supposed to supply their children with - notebooks, paper, pencils, rulers, etc. Some kids from less fortunate families would not have any of this if not for the donations. That is what the lists by teachers are for. The teachers are not making lists for desks, school buses, playground equipment, etc., but for the very basic stuff kids need for school.

  My wife and I do this every year with local organizations to help the kids who have almost nothing. We do school supplies along with coats, hats, gloves, backpacks, shoes, and other items like that. We watch stores for gigantic sales, clearances, and other bargain events all year. We buy this stuff months in advance or all year long at reduced cost and have it ready when needed.

  We do the same at Christmas - we get the lists from organizations or pick requests from "Gift Trees" in stores with what is wanted/needed by M/F and age group and do what we can. We do not give away Rolexes and Rolls Royces, but we do give items that are needed and will be used, and some just for a kid's pleasure and enjoyment. If no one did this there would be quite a few children that would have *nothing* for Christmas, and that is just not right. You should see the kids faces when the delivering fire trucks pull up to their house and they see the firemen carrying an armload of presents for them. I have seen it and there is nothing quite like it.

  I have wandered a bit, but I am going to say it anyway - should I ever be lucky enough to win a major lottery prize lots of kids are going to get lots of help. Even Superman cannot save everyone, but the rest of us who are more fortunate should help the less fortunate where we can.
