somebody said they win more when the buy lottery tickets in an upscale neighborhood rather than their own. do richer neighborhoods have a luckier vibe? if you think "no," do you think some other habits are luckier than others?

For scratchers, I do not have a clue.

For Powerball, Mega Millions, and other draw games the only thing that matters is the numbers you have on the ticket, not where you buy it. The luck part comes into play when you choose the numbers to put on the tickets.

Best wishes to you wherever you choose to buy your scratchers or draw game tickets.

Brock Lee, This one might make people 'luckier', not blocking others from getting to a lottery machine because you put money in it and are using the front of the machine to scratch the instant ticket you bought.

The only think that might make it luckier is that if you find cash, a wallet, jewelry, etc. in the parking lot it might be more (valuable) than on the poor side of town, and that benefits you because you get a reward for returning it or just keep it all.

Not where you buy, but what game you buy. The worse the odds, the worse your chances to win. The better the odds, the better your chance to win.

A very logical reason why someone might perceive that rich neighborhoods win more, alongside some fascinating psychological habits that people substitute for "luck."

The Neighborhood Myth: Volume vs. "Vibe"

The lottery terminal in a high-end grocery store uses the exact same random number generator (RNG) as the one in a small corner store across town. Every single combination has the exact same mathematical probability of being drawn, no matter where the piece of thermal paper was printed.

So, why do some areas seem to produce more winning tickets? It usually comes down to two factors:

Higher Sales Volume: If a specific store or neighborhood sells 10,000 tickets a week, and another sells only 1,000, the high-volume location is statistically ten times more likely to sell a winning ticket. It is not luckier; it just has more chances in play.

No, the neighborhood doesn't matter. What does matter though is that wealthier people can afford to cut their odds by buying multiple tickets per draw.
