I would say the biggest mistake is announcing to everyone.
You just won the jackpot

You mean to tell me that your good idea thread has existed for 14 hours and nobody has responded yet? When I saw this thread I immediately thought,"Tell everyone that you won the lottery is a big mistake that a lot of lottery winners make," but you already said that. Big mistakes that lottery winners do is buying a bunch of expensive crap impulsively all willy nilly. Another big mistake that lottery winners make is immediately quitting their jobs especially in ways that will burn bridges like cussing out managers to and even worse get them arrested such as admitting they did things that should have gotten them fired and imprisoned such as admitting they stole large amounts of money from their jobs like the employee who was on the news for stealing roughly $88,000 from their Wells Fargo job. A lottery winner who embezzled lots of money from their job could make an impulsive big mistake after winning the lottery such as saying,"I won the lottery, I quit, by the way I embezzled $88,000 from this company last month, see ya, wouldn't want to be ya, bye!"

I don't want to be rude but did you read my response to you? I specifically said,"Big mistakes that lottery winners do is buying a bunch of expensive crap impulsively all willy nilly."

Spending the Capital.
Don't spend the Capital, spend the returns, you'll never go broke 🤷‍♂️

I believe winning the lottery jackpot is a 💯 % factor of luck.

May Fortuna, goddess of chance or lot vindicate me.

I told ONE family Member about my $5,000 win while giving her $500 that she direly needed and made her promise to not tell anyone else. She promised . She broke her promise to me and told another family member and that other family member told another family member and soon a lot of family members were begging me for money. I told the first family member to keep the $500 and never contact me again. You don't break a promise like that to a family member.

You really need to move on past that incident which was a mistake on your part and write it off as a lesson learned. Promises are broken all the time and no one should assume anything is kept secret. 98% of people are gossiping busy bodies. I annoy gossipy busy bodies since I do not give out financial info or discuss my neighbors or friends or family.
Not too long ago, a busybody neighbor was fishing for financial info and I deviated from my normal response("it sounds like you are having serious financial issues...are you going to lose your home? Have you seen a debt counselor?" Does the neighborhood know?") and told the busybody I had an expensive Tesla on order but to keep it secret. She told a lot of people and looked like a fool when I said I never said anything about a car.

Never Forget.

I don't bring up the family incident all that much just brought it up because it was mentioned that many lottery winners make the mistake of telling friends and family about lottery wins.

I just don't get it, folks! With all the technology we have today, why don't they register an important ID number that allows the system to locate the citizen? That way, even if the bettor loses the ticket—or if it gets stolen or found by someone else—the prize couldn't be claimed without that specific ID. Not even a relative could collect it; only the person with the matching ID could. They need to put an end to "bearer" tickets; if the ticket were linked to a registered ID number, it would eliminate a lot of nonsense.

Your ID number for lottery tickets is a great idea, you should get that patented ASAP. Would be a game changer.

The law and multitude of possible fact scenarios are far more involved.
Someone might have an intent to toss or abandon a ticket and someone else finds it... so there is an issue that the lottery has to investigate. Or someone might have been given money to buy tickets for someone else. And the risk to your identity being released also would increase with a national ID registry.

Never Forget.
