NJ Pick-6 Lotto started as a 6/36 game in 1980 (Todd please correct me if necessary.) Later versions were (6/39,) 6/42, and 6/46. In September 2000, Pick-6 Lotto became the current 6/49.
Until the 6/49 began, all Pick-6 tickets had a five-digit "bonus" number printed alongside EACH set of six regular numbers. Anyone matching the bonus number EXACTLY won $250 (later $500) and was entered into a periodic drawing for prizes.
The top prize was always $50,000/year for 20 years, even when the rules for the regular part of Pick-6 allowed the jackpot to be paid in lump sum.
