Jesus and family would have celebrated Hanukkah, besides jews didn't celebrate birthdays at the time it being a  custom of sinners who rejoice and feast the day of their birth like Pharaoh and Herod.  Jesus's actual birthdate was in September-October exact date unknown (if God wanted us to know it we would).  Hundreds of years later the church decided to celebrate it on the winter solstice to seperate their people from the pagan celebrations they might have attended if not for having one of their own.

              BobP:

I would like to add my thought's on this matter. God did send the three Wisemen from the east. Matthew 2:1-23

              Also read Luke 2:8-20

              "UNDERSTANDING THE STORY"

Poor and scorned by society, the shepards are nevertheless highly honored. God chooses them as the first to hear of the birth of Jesus. The baby they go to worship is a decendent of David, who had been a humble shepherd in Bethlehem before becoming a great king.

              CHAPTER 2 VERSE 8

"Shepherds living out in the fields"

The angel appeared to people who were very lowly in the eyes of society. Shepherds roamed year round with their flocks, which made it impossible for them to keep the ceremonial law. Considered unreliable and often regarded as thieves, shepherds were not allowed to give evedience in the courts.

              CHAPTER 2 VERSE 8

"Watch over their flocks at night"

It was not necessaryly a warm time of the year. Animals reserved for temple sacrifices were kept outdoors even in the winter, and shepherds watched over flocks to protect them from thieves and wild animals.

              CHAPTER 2 VERSE 10

              "Do not be afraid"

Angels always offered a word of reassurance to those they visited unexpectedly, understanding that people would be afraid.

              CHAPTER 2 VERSE 11

              "A Savior has been born"

The prophets had taught the people of Isreal to expect a savior. Many expected him to deliver them from Roman opression, others wanted to be cured of disease. Jesus the savior will be much more than a political leader or a healer, he "will save his people from their sins."

              CHAPTER 2 VERSE 11

              "He is Christ the Lord"

The Greek name "Christ" has the same meaning as the Hebrew word "Messiah," which means "The Anointed One." The priests, prophets, and kings of the Old Testament were anointed with a sacred oil to signify their consecration to God. A "Messiah" was appointed to accomplish acts in favor of his people under God's behalf. This was to be the calling of Jesus.

              CHAPTER 2 VERSE 14

"Glory to God in the highest"

The Angels' words are celebrated by the Christian Church in the hymn "Glory in Excelsis Deo." Most hymns were orginally written as poems and later set to music. In medieval times, hymns were sung by a small choir made up of male singers only, who sang in unison (playsong).

              NOEL: THE FIRST CHRISTMAS

The word "Christmas" comes from the old English "Cristes Maesse," which means Mass of Christ. In carols, Christmas is often called Noel, taken from the French word for "birthday." Since the 4th. century, Christmas has been celebrated on the 25th. of Demember, but the exact date of Jesus' birth is not known.

BobP: I hope this short note and the readings will help clear your concerns and free your doubts.

"Merry Christmas" and a Happy New Year"

              Chief

May the warm winds of heaven blow softly upon your house. May  the Great Spirit bless all who enter there. May your mocassins make happy tracks in many snows. And may the rainbow always touch your shoulder.

Yes, (Luke 2:8) says: On the day of Jesus' birth "there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night."

The shepherds were living out in the open fields, tending their flock though the night.

Ask any bibical scholar, or any modern Israeli: This never could have occurred in Judea in the month of December, nor even in November, or late October.

In ancient times as today, shepherds brought their flocks in from the fields and penned them in shelters not later than the middle of October.  This was necessary to protect them from the cold, rainy season that usually followed that date.  Winter in Palestine is a rainy season. see Ezra 10:9,13; Song of Solomon 2:11)

Luke 2:8 tells us that at the time of Jesus' birth, the shepherds were yet abiding in the fields - by night, at that.  They had not yet brought their flocks home to ther sheepfolds.  Clearly the cold, rainy season had not yet commenced.  Jesus could not have been born later than mid-October.

The three wise men bearing gifts were following the custom of presenting gifts to a king, when they came into Jesus' presence.  They were approaching him, born KING of the Jews, in person, custom required them to present gifts as the Queen of Sheba brought gifts to Solomon, as when people invited to the White House to see the President bring gifts.  It wasn't a birthday party.

Thanks and a Merry Christmas everyone !!! BobP

The majority of americans  in the USA  have adopted DEC 25, as the birthday celebrated as Xmas.Xmas always showes the nativity/the birth of Jesus.

when you were born it was called is called your birthday.birthdays mean gifts.HAPPINES on the DAY you were born.

IF some people want to believe the weather/season/climate/ is not correct thats ok.  BUT MOST OF AMERICA CELEBRATES XMASS WITH THE BIRTH OF JESUS.

IT IS EVEN A LEGAL HOLIDAY.

HOPEFULLY THIS POSTING OF merry xmas my gift to you  WILL BE ACCEPTED

AS A TRUE GIFT. and the minority that try to change the xmas spirit will not use this as a debate as to  what date/climate/ect  it might be. like I said this is accepted in most of USA and parts of europe. and all I want to do is WISH ALL

a MERRY  XMAS. and a better NEW YEAR> so any grinches around  that are not in the xmas spirit,I will say an extra quiet prayer for you ,that you have a happy HOLIDAY.
