Well, what do you all (eslpecially all of you in Pa.) think? I haven't seen any discussion here on this issue, but plenty in local media (papers and TV).
Personally, I'm 5-4 for the good. My advantage is that money that I and others have been taking to Delaware, West Virginia, and New Jersey will be staying here. Property tax cuts seems like a wash. I feel uneasy about it being privatized, (as opposed to being ran by the Lottery), which means I feel that the tightest machines will be used. On the other hand, like I said it is close to home (maybe 10-15 miles away), compared to going 100 miles.
To the opponents, I say that no one says that you have to go and do it, and just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's wrong for everybody. Maybe there's stuff I don't like that you people do, but I don't get in your way of having a good time [if you ever do]. I'm sure there are down sides, but those effects remain to be seen. Of course, there is the hard core, who are opposed to everything that may be construed as fun for anyone. Paper made a good point about how the slots would help horse racing, and added that the people who are against slots, probably don't care about horse racing anyway. And I find it laughable that they probably think they are being threatened by the sleeze merchants at the local mini-mart, etc. selling lottery tickets.
So for me, better to go 10 miles than 100 and I'd be a hyprocrite if i said I was against it in Pa. when I go to Delaware to play. Bring out taxes home. Like everything else, this seemed to turn into a Political Issue, that is being Micro-managed to death; just like the Lottery was when it first started over 30 years ago. That dventually worked itself out to become OK today.
