Information Available about YOU!!

Subject: Web Site

We were advised of an interesting, yet concerning web site. If you enter www.zabasearch.com, you can search their data base by putting a persons name and state. Hit enter and you may find out more people have information about you than you'd like to think. As an example. I entered my name and got two hits which included month and year of DOB, address, and phone number. You can also use the satellite imaging program and see your house.
We in law enforcement are very concerned and have been told there are ways of having your personal information removed, but we've been told the process is somewhat complicated. Once I learn how the process is done, I will pass the information on.
With this kind of information floating around the Internet, it becomes more and more important to keep your social security number as secure as possible. DO NOT keep your SS card on your person (wallet/purse).  And DO NOT give out any personal information out over the phone or person to person unless you've initiated the contact and know the business or person you're talking with. One last thing to keep in mind. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Don't fall for any scams (ie: lottery's/cruises).

President Bush Visits My Birthplace Of Riga, Latvia

Bush hails Latvia's freedom

By Steve Holland and Patrick McLoughlin

RIGA (Reuters) - President Bush hailed Latvia's young democracy on Saturday in a visit that has revived tensions over Soviet domination of the Baltics and irked Moscow before celebrations of the 1945 victory over the Nazis.

Bush held a summit with leaders of the Baltic states -- Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania -- in a show of solidarity with three nations that joined NATO and the European Union in 2004 after shaking off communist rule in 1991.

"It's such a joy to come to the country that loves and values freedom," Bush told Latvian President Vaira Vike-Freiberga earlier when she awarded him the "Three-Star Order" -- a cross that is Latvia's highest honor.

Bush and Vike-Freiberga also laid flowers before a 1935 "Freedom Monument," a 50 meter (160 ft) column topped by a bronze statue of a woman that has been a shrine for Latvian independence. The area was cordoned off, with shops shuttered.

He was also due to give a speech about democracy at the start of a visit to Europe that has upset Russia before celebrations in Moscow on Monday to mark the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe.

Moscow has bristled at Bush's reference to a five-decade "occupation" of the Baltic states by the Soviet Union after the defeat of Hitler in 1945.

The three Baltic states want Moscow to acknowledge that the defeat of the Nazis paved the way for oppressive Soviet rule in eastern Europe even as it meant liberation for millions in the West.

COLLABORATORS

Russian President Vladimir Putin has in turn accused the Baltic states of trying to divert attention from past Nazi collaboration. Baltic leaders say that only a tiny minority sided with Adolf Hitler during the war.

Vike-Freiberga wrote in an opinion in the Washington Post on Saturday: "Russia would gain immensely by ... expressing its genuine regret for the crimes of the Soviet regime."

"Until Russia does so, it will continue to be haunted by the ghosts of its past, and its relations with its immediate neighbors will remain uneasy at best," she wrote.

But she said she would attend the celebrations in Moscow, adding that the victory over the Nazis -- in which 27 million Soviet citizens died -- "should be seen as a victory of democratic values over totalitarianism and tyranny."

Presidents of Lithuania and Estonia will boycott the ceremonies and the president of Georgia will also stay away. Bush will leave Latvia later on Saturday for the Netherlands and then visit Russia and Georgia.

All three Baltic nations, whose combined population is now about 6 million, were occupied by the Soviet Union in June 1940 after a pact between Nazi Germany and Stalinist Russia which divided up spheres of influence in East Europe.

In 1941, German troops occupied the Baltics and remained there until the end of the war when Soviet troops returned and ruled with an iron fist. The collapse of communism enabled the Baltic states to win their independence in 1991.

In a sign of the tangled past, the Freedom Monument, where Bush laid flowers, was the site of a first pro-independence protest against Soviet rule in August 1987. It has also been a rallying point for Latvian Waffen-SS veterans.

Police detained about 20 protesters from Latvia's big Russian minority after they hurled smoke bombs in a central street in one of scattered demonstrations against Bush.

"Bush is a horror. Bush is the terrorist," said protest leader Beness Aija. In another protest, posters said: "Stop the war in Iraq."

Still, many Latvians welcome Bush. "It's important to recognize the struggle that our fathers had against communists and the Soviet Union," said Ugis Senbergs, a 50-year-old architect.

Bush is walking a diplomatic tightrope on the trip as he seeks to pressure Putin to respect the budding democracies on his border and halt what U.S. officials call backsliding on democracy within Russia.

Writing in Saturday's edition of French daily Le Figaro, Putin said: "Our Baltic neighbors ... continue to demand some kind of repentance from Russia."

"I think they are trying to attract attention to themselves, to justify a discriminatory and reprehensible policy of their governments toward a large Russian-speaking part of their own population, to mask the shame of past collaboration," he said.

And in an interview with CBS's 60 Minutes, he faulted the United States, saying: "Democracy cannot be exported to some other place. (Democracy) must be a product of internal domestic development in a society."

Un-Sticking a Stuck Broadband Internet Connection

UN-STICKING A STUCK BROADBAND INTERNET CONNECTION

Every so often your broadband (DSL or Cable) Internet connection just seems to get stuck. It can't connect, or it can't find Web sites that you know are legitimate. So what can you do? You can always tell your computer to re-establish its connection with the central server. You can do this with the Dos command Ipconfig.

Just click on Start and then on Run. In the Open: box type "ipconfig" (without the quotes) and then just press the Enter key. That takes you to the DOS prompt.

Now type "ipconfig /release" (no quotes here) and press the Enter key. That command releases your current settings. Now type "ipconfig /renew" (again, no quotes) and press the Enter key. That command renews your Internet connection.

Now type, "exit" (sorry, no quotes here either) to exit the DOS mode and get back into Windows. Now, your Internet connection should work.

SEND TEXT MESSAGES TO CELL PHONES USING YOUR COMPUTER

What if you wanted to send a short text message to somebody's cell phone? Could you do this using the Internet? The answer is... perhaps. You could generally do this by going to their cell provider's Web site. But what if you don't know which cell service they currently use? Not to worry, because now you don't have to. You can send short text messages to anyone's cell phone by going to the SMS Everywhere Web site at color=#800080http://www.smseverywhere.com. Just go to the SMS Everywhere Web site, click on the Send SMS button, type in the cell phone number you want to send the message to and your actual message. Click on Send. You'll have to agree to their terms in order to send the message, but that's OK. You can even send a test message to your own phone to see if you can receive SMS text messages. This is cool.

Margarine vs Butter

 Subject: Interesting!

DO YOU KNOW...the difference  between margarine and butter?

Read on to the end...gets very  interesting!
Both have the same amount of  calories.
Butter is slightly higher in  saturated fats at 8 grams compared to 5 grams.
Eating margarine can increase  heart disease in women by 53% over eating the
same amount of butter, according  to a recent Harvard Medical Study.
Eating butter increases the  absorption of many other nutrients in other foods.
Butter has many nutritional  benefits where margarine has a few only because
 they are added!
Butter tastes much better than  margarine and it can enhance the flavors of
other foods Butter has been around  for centuries where margarine has been
around for less than 100  years.

 And now, for  Margarine..
Very high in trans fatty  acids...
Triple risk of coronary heart  disease..
Increases total cholesterol and  LDL (this is the bad cholesterol) Lowers HDL
cholesterol, (the good cholesterol)  Increases the risk of cancers by up to
five fold... Lowers quality of breast  milk...
 Decreases immune  response.
 Decreases insulin response.

HERE IS THE PART THAT IS VERY  INTERESTING!
Margarine is but ONE MOLECULE  away from being PLASTIC...This fact alone was
enough to have me avoiding  margarine for life and anything else that is
hydrogenated (this means hydrogen  is added to the molecular structure of the
 substance).
YOU can try this yourself:  purchase a tub of margarine and leave it in your
garage or shaded area. Within a  couple of days you will note a couple of
things: no flies, not even those pesky  fruit flies will go near it (that should
tell you something) . it does not rot  or smell differently...because it has no
nutritional value, nothing will grow on  it...even those teeny weeny
microorganisms will not a find a home to grow. Why?  Because it is nearly plastic.
Would you melt your Tupperware and spread that on  your toast?
Share this with your  friends.....(Butter them up!)

Cell Phone Calls

In a few weeks, cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sales calls on your cell phones.

Call this number from your cell phone (1-888-382-1222).  It is the national Do Not Call list.  It blocks your number for 5 years. You  must call from your cell phone.  It took me just one minute to do. You  may want to distribute this innormation to your friends and family.

Howdy Friends. If you are using AOL, please read this. I have been getting official looking notifications from AOL supposedely. They are trying to get private innormation out of me and others like me. I forward those messages to TOSREPORTS@AOL.COM  This is the one I received this morning:

NOTE: AOL strongly recommends that you contact your local phone company to confirm that any access number(s) you have chosen for dial up access to AOL will not cause toll or long distance charges to appear on your phone bill. Simply because an access number has the same area code or city as your dial-up location does not necessarily mean that it is in your local calling area. The access number(s) that you have selected may not correspond to your local phone company's billing designations and need to be carefully selected. If you do not contact your local phone company, you may unnecessarily incur phone charges when dialing an AOL access number. Only your local phone company can provide this innormation.

REMOVE YOUR NAME FROM THE WINDOWS XP START MENU

Do you know that it's you that's using your computer? If you're note so sure, you can just look at the top of your Start menu and there you are. I think it's annoying that my user name appears on my Start menu. If you feel the same, here's how to remove it.

Click on Start, Run, and then type "regedit" (without the quotes) and press the Enter key.

Navigate to:

Hkey_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

Now create a new DWORD value by right-clicking in the right pane, clicking on New and then DWORD Value. Type in the name "NoUserNameInStartMenu" (no quotes here either) and press the Enter key. Now double-click on your new attribute and give it a value of 1, where 1 equals hide user name and 0 equals display user name. Click OK and close out.

If the NonameInStartMenu value already exists, just change the Value Data to 1.

Now you can restart Windows and your name will no longer appear at the top of your Start menu.

Spyware Advisory

There is a new Spyware out. Norton Antivirus program found it on my Computer yesterday. It had been planted in my ICQ folder. The file name is: actskin4.ocx. After I deleted that file, by going to Safe Mode, I did a search of my C:\ drive and found it in another location. This time it had created it's own folder called C:\!Submit\actskin4.ocx. You can read all about it in:

 http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/spyware.realspy.html

If you run a virus test on your computer, and it is not there, then do a search for actskin4.ocx. This thing is nasty. It can monitor your key strokes.

PROTECT YOURSELF FROM PHISHING E-MAILS

Traditional Phishing e-mails try to trick you into clicking on a link and filling out an on-screen norm so that hackers and crackers can get you to post your personal financial innormation. You'll be told that if you don't fill in the requested innormation something bad will happen, like your bank account or your e-bay account will be shut down. Now there's a new Phishing scam being tried out in Brazil, which means that it will come to the United States when it has been perfected. This new Phishing e-mail is really dangerous. It's aimed at people that do online banking. It will do its dirty work the minute you open it. There is no link to click on and no attachment to open. When you open this bad boy e-mail, it runs a script that tries to rewrite the host files in your computer so that the next time you try to access your online banking service, you will unknowingly be redirected to a fraudulent Web site designed to capture the details of your online banking login. But take heart, because the news is not all bad. There is a defense against these vicious intruders. You can disable your Windows ability to run these scripts. For Win 98, click on Start, Settings, and then on Control Panel. From within Control Panel, double-click on the Add/Remove Programs icon. Now click on the Windows Setup tab. Select Accessories and double-click. Scroll down, look for VBSCRIPT SCRIPT FILE. If you don't find it, you don't have to do anything else. If you do find it, highlight it and click on the Delete button. Click on Yes to finish. That's it. You're done. For Windows ME, 2000 or Windows XP, you'll need to be logged on as an administrator. Double-click on My Computer on the Desktop for Windows ME or 2000, or in XP click on Start and then on My Computer. From within My Computer, click on Tools and then on Folder Options. Click on the File Types tab. Locate the VBSCRIPT SCRIPT FILE. If you don't find it, you don't have to do anything else. If you find it, highlight it and click on the Delete button. Click Yes to confirm. Once you have disabled VBSCRIPTING, you are safe from these new Phishing e-mails.
