Obama's cousin, Dick Cheney, hospitalized

Ex-VP Cheney hospitalized after having discomfort

WASHINGTON – Former Vice President Dick Cheney was admitted to the hospital Friday after experiencing discomfort, the latest health scare for the 69-year-old Republican leader who has a long history of heart disease.

Cheney was expected to remain at George Washington University Hospital over the weekend, said spokesman Peter Long.

It was not immediately clear whether Cheney's health concern was related to his previous heart troubles. He sustained his last heart attack, deemed a mild one, in February.

Cheney was not feeling well on Friday and went to see his doctors at George Washington University. On their advice, he was admitted to the hospital for further testing.

Cheney's heart attack earlier this year was his fifth since age 37. A heart attack occurs when blood flow to the heart muscle is blocked. In that episode in February, Cheney underwent a stress test and a heart catheterization.

Long said he had no other details about Cheney's condition.

A face of his party for decades, Cheney has remained a prominent voice of opposition to the Obama administration. His public career spanned decades, including service as a lawmaker, defense secretary and White House chief of staff.

Cheney had bypass surgery in 1988, as well as two later angioplasties to clear narrowed coronary arteries.

In 2001, he had a special pacemaker implanted in his chest. In addition, doctors in 2008 restored a normal rhythm to his heart with an electric shock. It was the second time in less than a year that Cheney had experienced and been treated for an atrial fibrillation, an abnormal rhythm involving the upper chambers of the heart.

Library Of Congress: Tupac's "Dear Mama"

Tupac’s “Dear Mama” To Be Preserved In Library Of Congress

Hip-Hop Wired

by Lacy Robinson June 23, 2010, 12:16pm

Tupac Shakur

His 1995 hit song “Dear Mama” is one of 25 songs that will be added to the National Recording Registry this year.

The Library of Congress called "Dear Mama" "a moving and eloquent homage to both the murdered rapper's own mother and all mothers struggling to maintain a family in the face of addiction, poverty and societal indifference."

This honor comes seven days after his birthday, where the rapper would have been 39. Tupac is the third rapper to enter the library, behind Grandmaster Flash and Public Enemy.

Tupac is one of 3 American rappers that will have a song preserved in the Library of Congress.

Robert Pattinson and Dracula are distant relatives

Posted: 6:17 p.m. today

LOS ANGELES &mdash - Robert Pattinson isn't the only famous vampire in his family.

Genealogists say the 24-year-old "Twilight" star is related to Vlad the Impaler, widely cited as the inspiration for the main character in Bram Stoker's "Dracula."

Researchers at Ancestry.com discovered that Pattinson and the Transylvanian leader (real name: Vlad III Dracula) are connected through their relationship to the British royal family. Prince William and Prince Harry are Pattinson's distant cousins; Vlad the Impaler was their distant uncle.

"Tracing Pattinson's family back to Vlad was difficult research, but the pieces that unraveled created the perfect accompaniment to the Twilight Saga," said Anastasia Tyler, a genealogist at Ancestry.com. "Without any myth or magic, we find royalty and vampires lurking in Pattinson's life - making his story just as supernatural as the one he's playing on screen."

Also connected to the prince's lineage and therefore to Dracula? Stephenie Meyer, the author of the "Twilight" series.

The latest big-screen installment in the popular vampire saga, "Eclipse," opens June 30.

Glued to the television set today

Yes, I was indeed glued to the television for 2 reasons today. The U.S.A in World Cup action and the epic match going on in the Wimbledon Championships first round match between John Isner (USA) and Nicolas Mahut (FRA). I was thrilled to see the USA score a goal and become the outright leader of their group, but that was not what stole the show on this 23rd day of June of 2010. John Isner is currently ranked #19 in the world and Nicolas Mahut is currently ranked #148, but these two gentlemen are doing what no others have done in any sport, let alone tennis. They have played 10 hours of tennis, without a conclusion to their match. The results will be played out tomorrow, which with be the 3rd day for their match. Mind you, both players are also scheduled to play doubles matches tomorrow, once their singles match is complete. For all you tennis fans in NC, you've got something to be especially proud of regarding this iron-man contest .......... John is from Greensboro, NC!!

I can't wait to see who will win the epic battle and here is the current score line: 6-4, 3-6, 6-7(7), 7-6(3), 59-59.

!! Go John !!

Note:

The previous longest singles match in terms of games came at Wimbledon in 1969, when 112 games were played as Pancho Gonzales defeated Charlie Pasarell 22-24, 1-6, 16-14, 6-3, 11-9.  The previous longest fifth set in Grand Slam men’s singles play came at the 2003 Australian Open, when Andy Roddick edged Younes El Aynaoui 21-19 in the quarter-finals.
