The most traveled trophy in the history of New England sports now has an official sponsor.

The Red Sox and the Massachusetts State Lottery held a press conference at Fenway Park on Tuesday to announce a partnership in which the Lottery will be the presenting sponsor of the World Series Trophy tour.

Ever since making history by winning their first World Series championship in 86 years, the Red Sox have been glad to share their success with the entire region of New England, not to mention various other locales, with trophy parades, rallies and viewings.

The Sox have traveled to 10 states, as well as the Dominican Republic, with the trophy that symbolizes perhaps the most storied accomplishment in the tradition-laden history of the Red Sox. Aside from all six New England states (consisting of 16 cities and towns), the Red Sox have also trekked their trophy to select locations in California, Georgia, Florida and New York.

"As we have traveled around New England and across the country, the response to the trophy from Red Sox Nation has been even more remarkable than what we could have imagined," said Red Sox president/CEO Larry Lucchino.

"As we now turn our focus to sharing the trophy with communities across Massachusetts, the Lottery is a fitting partner as an institution that does so much good across the state, pouring the hundreds of millions of dollars it generates each year directly into local communities and improving the quality of life for people across Massachusetts. Their support will enable us to make our pledge to Massachusetts a reality."

The Trophy Tour is showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon. They have now found a most willing partner in the Massachusetts State Lottery, which was founded in 1972.

Last month, Lucchino pledged that he would take the trophy to each of the 351 towns and states that requested a visit. As of Tuesday, the Sox had received 90 Trophy Tour requests from 66 Massachusetts cities and towns.

The club cannot guarantee being able to showcase the trophy at a specific date or time, but vows to still honor the request with a visit on another date.

Requests for Trophy visits may be submitted in writing to:

And in honor of the Red Sox victory the MA Lottery will soon introduce a new jackpot game with an "annuity-only" payout stretching over 86 years - hopefully if you win you'll live long enough to not only collect it all, but also see the Sox win it all again...
