Illinois lottery glitch gives players extra chance

Technical difficulties with the Illinois State Lottery's Friday broadcast could turn into a nice payoff for some Pick Four ticket holders.

A programming glitch halted taping during the 12:40 p.m. drawing after the number nine had been already drawn on air, said lottery spokesman Courtney Hill.  Since there was a problem with the live broadcast, four new numbers were drawn, Hill said.  They were 3985.

But the official number for Friday's Pick Four drawing was 9985, swapping the three for the original nine as the first number.  Officials said ticket holders who played either combination would receive a cash reward.

Note:  The affected drawing was Thurs. midday, not Friday as mentioned in the article.  Thurs. midday pick-4 players, get those tickets out of the garbage can and check them.

I commend IL for rectifying this.  After my e-mail to them about it and the shoddy response I received from them, I was ready to throw in the towel.  But Carolyn Adams did the right thing.  Good for her!
