I hope she does drop it. PB deserves a nice shot across the bow as protest against their backroom ripoff shenanigans.  It will probably encourage other states to do the same, and send waves of fear through the PB cabal. To the people who say "Oh no, I will have to go somewhere else to get my PB ticket",  it is easier to understand if you consider current PB and new PB separate games. Do you really like the new game? Current PB is ending. CT didn't agree to new PB. lt should be considered a brand new game and analyzed as such and if found unacceptable, then it should be cancelled. If PB doesn't want states to cancel, they should make sure states approve of changes before they are announced.

It hurts the most when you could be the one losing the ability to play Powerball.  CO and I are on the same side of the fence right now.

I do like the new game.  No more $10 million jackpots.  100% increase in the top tier consolation prizes for a lot less of an increase in the odds...Powerplay.  What's not to like?

Does anyone know if Georgia is a privacy respected state for winners of large jackpots? Thanks.

Well the governor has a choice, a game with lower odds and low jackpots with corresponding low sales or a game with slightly higher odds and (after a big jackpot) better sales. They could just keep the game the way it is now but forget about the jackpot even approaching 300 million. The odds seem way out of proportion now for a game that only gives it's players a 10-25 million dollar pot.

Sorry, From what I understand Your info is out there for all the world to see if you play and win in Georgia. I believe Delaware is one state that lets you win anonymously.

[In my best Little Jackie Cooper impression]

Please, Lady.  Don't kill my Powerball.  They didn't mean no harm, honest.

[But as an FYI to some...]

Connecticut IS home to two of the most profitable casinos in the world and a LOT of the money previously spent on the lottery has moved there (I think).

Also, Connecticut used to be home to three jai alai frontons (all closed) and two dog tracks (but not all at once).  Currently there is just one dog track (a former fronton) and several OTB-type of betting parlors.

I like the change to the annuity. I wish PA would offer a cash option for UfL or retire the game (instead of switching the draw nights).

                  CASH,

I'm sure it's only a matter of time before they retire UfL. I would be suprised if moving it really generated any more sales.

I still would like to see WINFALL in PA (even though MI got rid of it).

                    Massachusetts has Ca$h WinFall.

If CT dumps Powerball, I would be tempted to drive to New Hampshire to play Hot Lotto and PB.

I use PA for Powerball. NO interest on Lottery winnings - CT makes sure it gets their finger in all pies. No tax in NJ and No tax In PA. BIG difference in take home amount. Plus PA doesn't force you to publish your name! Now all I need to do is win ...

You can not claim anonymously in PA. They make you publish your name. DE is the only PB state that I know of that allows you to claim anonymously.

I think you're right about DE being the only state that officially allows you to remain anonymous.  However, some other states have respected a winner's right to privacy, and do not release private details if requested.  For example, Maryland is very good about respecting the wish to remain anonymous.

You might want to check the PB web site. SC has a winner who remained Anonymous on June 26th of last year for $34+M. You are right, PA doesn't allow Anonymous but it does allow you to claim it as a trust/LLC or not stand in front of the press and play idiot. Much better than NY/NJ who make you go through the whole publicity thing - thereby making you a target for every nut in the world.

Either way, get the lump-sum and move. Use the LLC to buy what you need and enjoy life. Who care what the annuity pays. Why would any one set their self up for future changes in the tax law? If a state - or city - has no tax this year, it doesn't mean they won't change the law next year and then it would be too late to avoid the loss.

                      Cheers

WOW!!!  That would be something if CT drops powerpall.  I used to live in NY, and recall how folks would drive there to buy their powerball tickets when the jackpot was high enough.

Look for a news story that I will be posting today.

It shows that North Dakota is another state with a law that allows jackpot winners to stay anonymous.

Powerball is available for sale in North Dakota.
