The jackpot in the multi-state Mega Millions lottery grew to $150 million this morning, when no tickets in Friday's drawing won the jackpot.
None of the tickets sold for Friday's $131 million drawing matched all five lotto numbers and the Mega Ball. The next drawing will be Tuesday.
There were seven second-prize winners from Friday night's drawing: 2 from California, 1 from Illinois, 3 from New York, 1 from Ohio, and 2 from Texas. Each ticket matched all five lotto numbers but not the Mega Ball number numbers to win $250,000.
The California second-prize players each won $226,851, since California uses a pari-mutuel payout model.
Another 34 players matched four of the five lotto numbers, plus the Mega Ball number. Those thrid-prize tickets are each worth $10,000.
There was only one third-prize winner from California, so because of the pari-mutuel prize structure, that player won a prize of $63,439.
The winning numbers from Friday's drawing were: 1, 4, 14, 45 and 53. The Mega Ball number was 33.
The Texas Megaplier was 3.
Isn't a jump from $131M to $150M kind of small? What happened to the big spenders that were waiting in the shadows to pounce on the $100M+ draw? Are we going to have to go to the $200M+ before the big boys become involved? Are the economy and gas prices catching up to the Lottery?
It is kind of small, but I think a lot of people had other things on their mind (rather than playing the lottery), and the news cycles were filled with hurricane disaster stories, so there was no room for jackpot news in the mainstream media.
Geez, no one wants to mention the California player who nabbed $63,000 for only matching 4+1? That California prize structure sure can be sweet!
Wait until we get up there to like $200,000,000...I think the California prizes then will be really sucky. There will be just to many winners.
And yeah isn't that a small increase. I mean they did sell 37 million tickets. The next jackpot after Tuesday should be around $200,000,000. If it is not I will be disappointed.

Many people have less spending money because of the high gas prices. Fortunately my last fill-up was before all my area stations crossed $3.
Where can I find ticket sales statistics by State?

Todd,
I had commented on that in a new thread. It was a very nice prize.

I was up at the local Stop & Shop earlier. There were three separate collections going on. The two for food had full baskets. The one(s) for money, at each register, were also filling up. I heard the Volunteer Fireman were hitting the streets all week-end with their buckets.

Are you trying to stir up trouble?
If I were a 4+1 Winner in some other State, I might have a Greedy Eye upon California's Prize Structure, but until that happens, I don't.
Winning $63,000 for a4 + 1 ticket is nice! =)
HAPPY LABOR DAY WEEKEND TO ALL MY HAPPY MM GAMBLERS....IT'S SATURDAY AFTERNOON....In Montgomery County.....in the last 2 days I spent $23.00 on gas for my cute little compact car....and still couldn't fil the tank.....but I am going to PLAY MM TODAY...ANYWAY.....
I already told (Lucky Seven) that pretty soon we won't be able to afford to drive our cars to the gas station, to buy the $3.45 $4.00 per gallon Unleaded Regular "gasoline" we need to go to the grocery store to buy the MM lottery tickets.....
The jackpot of mega millions would have to be three times what is now for me to pay the gas expense to drive to washington and back to get tickets. It is not worth the drive to go that far unless it is crazy money.
