Powerball

A ticket sold at a grocery store in suburban Kansas City matched all six numbers in a Powerball drawing to win a $36 million jackpot, the Missouri Lottery said.

The winning numbers in the multi-state game were 6, 11, 14, 27 and 41, with 38 as the Powerball and 5 as the Power Play multiplier.

Susan Goede, a Missouri Lottery spokeswoman in Jefferson City, said the winning ticket was sold at Cosentino's Apple Market in Raytown. She said the ticket-holder has 180 days to claim the prize by bringing it to one of the Missouri Lottery's four offices — in Independence, Jefferson City, Springfield and St. Louis.

"Powerball? You're kidding!" said Rick Lawson, assistant manager at the Raytown store. "I haven't had anyone coming through the front door screaming and hollering yet this morning."

Retailers selling a winning Powerball ticket get $50,000.

"It's more the publicity than the actual dollar amount," said Lawson. "It will be good for us as a company."

Goede said Missouri's last winning Powerball ticket was also sold in Raytown, at John's Apple Market in September 2000. That ticket was for a $14.3 million jackpot. She said Wednesday's jackpot was the eighth largest for any game in Missouri.

The biggest, for $130.6 million, also in a Powerball drawing, was won by a couple from Harmon in July 2003,

Goede said that if the winner of Wednesday's drawing elects a cash payment rather than annual installments, the value of the jackpot is $17.2 million.

Two tickets sold in West Virginia and one sold in Kentucky matched the first five numbers picked Wednesday, winning $200,000 apiece. A second ticket sold in Kentucky plus one from South Carolina also matched the first five numbers and hit the Power Play for $1 million each.

The jackpot was expected to revert to the minimum of $15 million for Saturday.

Powerball, created in 1992, is now played in 27 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

CASH Only

Missouri is unusual among MUSL members in that winners have 60 days from the DRAWING in which to choose cash or annuity.

Does it seem strange (or right) to you that the Missouri Lottery would identify the STORE so soon after the drawing?  I think I've seen/heard/read about a TOWN being named after a winner was not claimed for a while, so this seems odd to me.

Howdy Bradly,

There are a few things wrong with the article.

First of all, the point that you pointed out. The one for the $130.6 was a split pot with someone in PA if I remember right. They may not have counted that because of the split, I don't know...They may have been talking about a single ticket wins. The town mentioned in the article is called Hermann not Harmon. It's about 40 miles from the house here.
KC or the suburbs seems to get a lot of winners for MO. We have St. Louis on the other side but it doesn't seem to produce like KC does. I do find that odd.

NoCompLotto!

Wonder if it was Mama, Vint, Naomi or Iola (or Iola's Mother). Somehow they'll find some scheme to where they won't get but a dime of it. ROFL

If it was, watch out for that white purse!!! Hit With Stick

I am desperate.

I play MM using Primeticket service, and their payment processors are experiencing technical difficulties.  My credit card has been declined (I still have credit), I wish they solve this problem before 1 pm, I'll keep trying.

Good luck tonight.

HAPPY FRIDAY..........11/4.........3:45 PM EST...TO ALL MY FELLOW  M&M/POWERBALL PLAYERS

HEY.....NEAR BRIT......HOW ARE YOU???

In answer to your ????......no it's sounds ok to me.......I have seen in the papers and heard on the TV of the Store Names being listed or given, before the actual Winner stepped forward, because the Store sold the Winning Ticket, and are therefore entitiled to their part of the prize money.

Sometimes as much as $75-or even $100,000.00 ....big ones....The sooner the store name is announced the quicker the owner can get his share.........works for me..LLOLOLOLOLPatriot

Dear Chewie,

The error message is placed in the beginning of the page. It is front and center on betslips.com in bright red right above the various lotteries that are offered.

This is an extremely frustrating time as our processors have repeatedly promised us that the processing functionality will be available, yet they have let us down several times over the past 48 hours. To be frank, we are exploring more reliable processing solutions that we hope to be available as soon as the proper coding and testing are complete. We find this situation to be unacceptible and we apologize for the inconvenience.

Thank you!

JONMOJON

Thank you, Chewie.

Their service is still down.  I wish they fix it before next tuesday draw.
