$1 Million Lottery Winner Used $8 From Previous Win

When Barbara Blaul cashed in an $8 Powerball winning ticket last week, she figured investing her earnings in another $8 of Powerball plays would be wise. Her strategy paid off Tuesday when she collected her latest prize of $1 million.

"We always play the Power Play, and I'm sure glad that's how we've kept playing," said Ms. Blaul, 54, a nurse at Tullahoma's Harton Regional Medical Center. "I'm still beside myself."

With husband Hans at her side, Ms. Blaul collected her check from CEO and President Rebecca Paul at the Tennessee Lottery's Nashville headquarters amid the cheers of onlookers.

"Barbara is the ninth member of a growing group of winners of $1 million or more," said Ms. Paul. "We're so happy to see such excitement from players, as well as the ongoing enthusiasm from families and students who benefit from the funds we raise."

Barbara and Hans plan to pay bills, invest in their retirement and take a "small" vacation. After leaving the Lottery headquarters, their next move was to call their three children. They are also grandparents to seven grandchildren — all girls.

By using the game's Power Play option, Ms. Blaul's second-tier prize (won by matching all five white balls) was multiplied from $200,000 to $1 million since the multiplier for Saturday's drawing was five. With Power Play, this means a player who wins a prize other than the jackpot is also guaranteed to multiply their winnings from two to five times, depending on which multiplier is selected for that drawing.

Ms. Blaul purchased her winning ticket at the Southeastern Discount Company in Tullahoma.

The estimated jackpot for next Powerball drawing on Saturday is $101 million. Powerball drawings are held on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9:59 p.m. CST (10:59 p.m. EST).

Gee, what's her secret?  I've used my POWERBALL number winnings, put the money back into my POWERBALL kitty, and still lost -- many, many times.

Finally, I'm sure we've tried that strategy but somehow the strategy hasn't worked, yet.

I don't see where there is an incentive for MegaMillions to change, let alone pay attention to the poll.  People line up around the block to play "The Big Game" and changing it to add a megeplier won't bring in more then a handfull of people; relatively speaking.  If they loose the California income, maybe they'll see a significant drop in player and evaluate a proposal.  Until then, it wouldn't be a good business decision.
