Lucky store! So who's the Florida Lotto winner?

Florida LotteryFlorida Lottery: Lucky store! So who's the Florida Lotto winner?

A steady stream of customers has been coming through the Cumberland Farms store in Port St. Lucie, Florida, buying potato chips and gum — and trading rumors.

The store was identified early Thursday as the location where one of two winning tickets was sold in Wednesday's $82 million Florida Lotto drawing.

"Everybody's been talking about it," Yesenia Quevedo, 18, a customer-service associate, said. "A lot of people have asked for the Lotto."

No one has presented a winning ticket, said Alfred Bea, communications manager for the Florida Lottery.

Around the Cumberland Farms store, which shares a small plaza with a Chinese restaurant and a pharmacy, that hasn't stopped the rumors.

Merchants said they'd heard the winner was an employee who'd called in sick at a business on U.S. 1 in Port St. Lucie, but that turned out to be false when colleagues reached the woman.

"I just hoped it would be someone that needs it. Not someone who already has money," said Keri Frosch, 26, a customer-service associate at the store. "I hope it's one of our regular customers that comes in every day and really tries hard to win."

The winning numbers from Wednesday's drawing were: 12-13-17-27-32-36.

Bea said the Cumberland Farms owner is expected to receive $30,000 as a retailer bonus for selling the jackpot ticket.

Frosch, who has worked at the business since December, said the store sold two or three winning Fantasy Five tickets in the past, but this is the first six-number winning ticket purchased there.

"It's very exciting," she said.

Regular customer Douglas Abbuhl, 50, said the store manager told him Thursday morning that Lady Luck had smiled on the convenience store near his house.

"If I won that they'd probably bury me from the shock," he said. "I couldn't imagine what I'd do with $82 million."

Frosch said lottery sales on Wednesday were brisk.

"We had lines out the door [Wednesday] night waiting for tickets," she said. "We had to call in another employee to come in so we could assist all the customers."

Each ticket holder could receive $1.46 million each year for 30 years if he or she choose an annuity type payout, Bea said. Each ticket holder could get about $23 million by choosing a lump sum payout.

The second winning ticket was sold at a Circle K in Lady Lake. Both were quick-pick tickets.

Hopefully , the winner  is just getting their affairs in order first.

Let the hubbub die down before coming forward....

It's funny how a $41M win is creating such a fuss when PB jackpots have exceeded $300M, and if 2 people won $82 million in PB, it wouldn't be such "big news." Not that I wouldn't want to win even a small part of that jackpot, but it really isn't $41M anyway.

"If I won that they'd probably bury me from the shock," he said. "I couldn't imagine what I'd do with $82 million."

Florida must be taking lessons from PB and all of the misleading advertising. There were 2 winners and the cash value was probably less than 60%. (it's not announced until the ticket is claimed) less taxes or around $15M..a huge amount of money, but certainly not more than other people in Florida are worth. Actors in Hollywood get more than that for one picture. Don't get me wrong, because it would change my life considerably. Just commenting on the hype & exaggeration.

This just happened on Wed and everyone is already abuzz with anticipation, so I'd be doing everything in my power to claim my win quietly and then take a very long trip around the world. Unfortunately, even a Trust or LLC can't keep your name and city of residence out of the news. Well, I wasn't one of the winners so I don't have to worry about hiding for now. Hope it was somebody from LP, however!

Libra, time is a great ally to the winner .

The masses are waiting to see who it is , but if enough time passes, most curiosity seekers will go on with their lives and a few weeks later they will see the news report and say"Oh, THAT's the winner...I forgot about that jackpot, because I'm chasing a new one now..."

Until Florida joins PB (or less likely MM) Lotto is Florida's biggest jackpot game. FL has no experience with a multi-state game.

Hey now i am confused about trusts and LLC. i thought any blind trust created can keep the winners annonymous. Do you mean to tell me that some states govern trust laws? I am going to google this.

Delaware LLC's allow the owners to remain anonymous, which is one of the reasons the state is so popular for incorporating businesses.

Oh, there will be craziness and brouhaha, but not at the same intensity as it would be immediately following the drawing. Craziness and brouhaha probably for the winner, but the pandemonium will have died down a bit, don't you agree ?
