The Tennessee Department of Education announced Tuesday $14 million from unclaimed lottery prizes is available for agencies to develop high-quality after-school programs for at-risk students.

The Lottery Education After-School Program (LEAP) uses remaining lottery funds for community-based and faith-based organizations and other public or private organizations.

"We are excited to expand the number of valuable after-school programs with this additional funding," said Education Commissioner Lana Seivers.

Grants are awarded in two categories: LEAPs After School Programs and LEAPs Test Preparation Pilot Projects. Deadline for receipt of applications is Sept. 12.

For a complete application package and directions to the workshops log on to http://Tennessee.gov/education/learningsupport/afterschool/index.shtml or contact Laura Ellis at 253-6037.
