During the South Carolina Education Lottery's evening Pick 4 draw for Saturday, March 13, the numbers 7, 2, 4, and 5 were selected.  However, an error occurred when the numbers 1, 2, 4, and 5 were entered into the central system for validating claims, according to a release from SCEL.

The lottery will pay Pick 4 ticket holders for either set of numbers.  Lottery Post's South Carolina Pick 4 evening results history (www.lotterypost.com/) includes both combinations.game/176/results

Lottery spokeswoman Stephanie Summers Hemminghaus says the lottery will investigate how the error happened. The payout for the real winning numbers will total $20,100, while the payout on the incorrect numbers is $98,100.

Individual winning tickets could be worth $100 to $5,000 depending on a variety of options players can choose when they buy their tickets.

Hemminghaus said a similar mistake happened in June 2005.

Players holding Pick 4 tickets bearing the numbers 7, 2, 4, and 5 for the March 13 evening draw must take or mail their tickets to a Claims Center for processing and prize payment.

SCEL retailers will not be able to pay on Pick 4 tickets bearing the number 7, 2, 4, and 5 for the March 13 draw.

Players holding Pick 4 tickets bearing the numbers 1, 2, 4, and 5 for the Saturday evening draw on March 13 may be claimed at a Claims Center or, for prizes of $500 or less, at SCEL retailers.

Claims Centers are located in Columbia, Greenville and Charleston.

I thought something strange happened that day, because the numbers were clearly 7245. Guess someone will be getting a pink slip during this trying economy?!

Well, that's mighty good of them, huh?

It's not like they can't afford it.

I wonder how many people held both tickets that day?

All is far in love and war!  Now, the South Carolina Lottery personnel should be commended for their integrity.  They could have said, "too <snip> bad, it's not our problem!" Nevertheless, they did the right thing and I'm sure the players will never forget it.
