$220 MILLION: Powerball lottery jackpot ramps up

Powerball

Only third time in past year to reach $200M

By Todd Northrop

There was no jackpot winner in the Saturday night drawing of the multi-state Powerball game, causing the grand prize to increase to an estimated $220 million for Wednesday's drawing.

Saturday was the 11th consecutive drawing without a jackpot winner.

The estimated cash value for the new jackpot is $118.8 Million.  After-tax cash and annuity prize amounts are reported state-by-state at USA Mega, a web site devoted to the Powerball and Mega Millions multi-state lottery games.

Players should note that jackpot amounts are conservative estimates provided by the lotteries, and are often somewhat higher by the time the drawing occurs.

Even though there were no jackpot winners, 8 lucky tickets matched the first five numbers for a $200,000 second-place prize: 1 from Idaho, 1 from Nebraska, 1 from New Jersey, 4 from New York, and 1 from Pennsylvania.  None of the second-place tickets were purchased with the Power Play option — if they were, those tickets would be worth $1 million.

62 tickets matched four white numbers plus the Powerball and won $10,000.  Of those tickets, 5 also were purchased with the Power Play option, multiplying the prize by 3 for a total cash prize of $30,000.

The Powerball winning numbers for Saturday, August 6, were 25, 30, 54, 57, and 59, with Powerball number 6.  The Power Play number was 3.

Wednesday's drawing will be only the third time in the past year that players are vying for a $200 million jackpot.  On June 1, 2011, a group of 20 Costco workers from New York won $200 million prize, and on April 6, 2011, two men who worked together as welders in the small Southern Indiana town of Clarksville snagged a $221.7 million Powerball jackpot.  But one would have to look all the way back to June 2, 2010 to find the last jackpot greater than $200 million.  In that drawing, one ticket sold in Ohio won a $261.6 million Powerball jackpot — the the winner claimed the prize anonymously.

When a Powerball ticket is purchased with the Power Play option for an extra $1 per ticket, any non-jackpot prize is multiplied from 2-5 times, depending on a computerized random number generated that evening.  Second-place Power Play-enabled tickets matching five numbers but not the Powerball are always multiplied by 5 times, for a $1 million prize.

Powerball is now played in 42 states, plus the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.  Drawings are Wednesdays and Saturdays at 11:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

Powerball lottery results are published within minutes of the drawing at USA Mega.

Let it roll ...  unless I win it. White Bounce $118.8m.  I'm willing to let Uncle Sam have his (cough) 'fair share' (cough) of 35%. Grudgingly.

If I win I'm thinking of signing everybody up for the "Jelly of the Month Club".

I'm just thinking about it, nothing definite, so don't get all excited yet

1) PLAY MORE OFTEN FOR LESS LINES.A LOTTERY STOP LOSS LIMIT of 1 LINE for every powerball or mega millions drawing does not seem like a bad a idea if your goal is to hit one of those elusive second prizes or the jackpot.https://www.lotterypost.com/thread/234945

LOTTERY STOP LOSS LIMIT= 1 LINE FOR EVERY DRAW

It has been over a year since anyone in Ohio claimed part of a PB jackpot, it's about time and I'm hoping it's me.  It has also been over a years since anyone claimed the local jackpot of Classic Lotto which is at $40M+, if I can't win PB, then I would be happy to win it instead.  Good luck everyone, $200M+ jackpots is as good as it gets.

Yeah, I remember going to Michigan back in June and playing on that Ohio Classic pot.
still got some bet slips for it at the house; might fill em out and send to my Brother-n-law
to play for me. I can't believe nobody has hit that yet.

as for the Powerball let it roll!!!

I want to see another 300 million dollar pot split by a bunch of city workers!
*sarcastically speaking of course*

Maybe the fed workers will get it this time, seeings how our dear
president decided to put a freeze on our yearly cost of living raises!
