I spent $1,000 on ticket and all i won in return was $220. I should have kept my money. damm man the lottery is a rip off

Cheer up, your returns were twice what you could expect from spending a $1000 on tickets.

tickets or chances per draw  1000
 possible combos of 5/59 + 1/39 numbers = 195249054
MATCHES     ODDS                WINNING COMBOS      EXPECTED WINNERS
  5/5+B    1 : 195249054          1                      0.00
  5/5+0    1 : 5138133            38                     0.00
  4/5+B    1 : 723145             270                    0.00
  4/5+0    1 : 19030              10260                  0.05 X $100 =   $5.
  3/5+B    1 : 13644              14310                  0.07 X $100 =   $7.
  3/5+0    1 : 359                543780                 2.79 X $7   =  $19.53
  2/5+B    1 : 787                248040                 1.27 X $7   =   $8.89
  1/5+B    1 : 123                1581255                8.10 X $4   =  $32.4
  0/5+B    1 : 62                 3162510               16.20 X $3   =  $48.6
 ______________________________________________________________________________
 overall odds are 1 : 35.1              28.5 total expected winners = $121.42

Be Happy

I spent $20 and only got a 0+1 for $3.

    Congrats to the winners!

I'll still buy MM and PB for Fri & Sat, but I'll buy an extra Texas Lotto as Saturday's $20m draw is $14.8m cash vs PB $11.9m cash. Thumbs Up After all, $14m or $150m, its still a win and a lot more than I have now!

I said it and I will say it again. Califnornia should dump its paltry SLP and join the PB pool!!!!

EDIT: Oh, since I am a new member I can't post a link. But I just read an interesting article from Sacramento Bee website. California is indeed considering joining Powerball!!!

Congrats to the winner. They also made lottery history as that's the last time $1 will have won that much since the tickets are going up in January and theree's no way the jackpot will have grown near $254 million.

It sure sounds like a player is far better off throwin another dollar at the Powerplay or Megaplier than another line of numbers.

        From the OP:

Just missing, by failing to match only the Powerball, were tickets in a dozen states. One in Arkansas is worth $1 million for matching five numbers while having the Power Play multiplier option. Winning $200,000 were four Florida tickets, three each in New York and Illinois, two in Ohio, and one each in Georgia, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, New Mexico, and Wisconsin.

Bet those who hit 5 + 0 for $1 are kicking themselves. Nice to win $200,000 but that other dollar they didn't play on PP or MP was worth another $800,000.

        Bang Head

Those who run the lotteries love it when players look for consistency in something that's designed not to have any.

        Lep

There is one and only one 'proven' system, and that is to book the action. No matter the game, let the players pick their own losers.

California wins 40% of the Mega Millions jackpots, It will be interesting to see if they will dominate Powerball the same way.Blue Thinking

I played $8 worth and won a whole $3.00. If only I could win the jackpot as much as I win $2-7 prizes I'd be filthy rich. Oh well, and GOOD LUCK to whoever won the Powerball jackpot. Someone's going to have a very nice Christmas this year.

Guess I'll keep dreaming about all the luxuries I wish to have once I come into such a windfall..lol

If the odds of winning a jackpot was the same as winning a $2-7 prize you would but then you would have  to split it with thousands of other winners and you would still only get $2-7.

Exactly! Every year Mega Millions and Powerball hits right around this time and then ticket sales start to get crazy right before Christmas. Another jackpot won't probably hit until a few days before Christmas or a few weeks after the New Years as it always do.

Sometimes makes me wonder if the Lottery has control over when they want these jackpots to hit.

Just seems to be too much of a coincidence to me.Confusedc

I know what the odds are of winning these jackpots, so incase you didn't realize I was being sarcastic.

Haha you have to be careful with sarcasm through text. Generally sarcasm is indicated through tone of voice and other non-verbal communications. I actually thought you were serious too. You should try adding the "rolling eyes" smiley face or exaggerate a bit more so we simpletons can understand better!

While the value of a dollar is substantial, hope is priceless. But if you ain't got a dollar, then it's hopeless.

I Agree! Like the guy who won the Mega Millions in northern Virginia, i think the winner is someone who is already finacially set for life!Bandit
