Coin Toss, I think you maybe right about the timing of this story being odd.

I was wondering why have some dig for 3 hours to find this ticket for a photo op.
It's been years since he won, and nothing new really to report.

If spending the extra dollar for power play is a sign of a true believer then there has only been a couple of true believers to match 5+0 since the matrix changed.

    Yep.

But I bet there's a few Powerplay skippers who regret heeding the advice of others who told them not to spend the extra buck because it was a waste of money.

Yeah Brad Duke had some serious belief in his destiny. The results speak for themselves.

They actually had the Powerplay option in "07". I was on a strict budget at the time, and decided to pass on it.

The Powerplay number was "2" for that drawing, which would have doubled my second tier prize to $400,000.

I have no regrets, I still won big. I'm in this for the long term, and the best is yet to come.  Big Smile

Just letting you know for future reference, the multiplier is irrelevant when it comes to the second-tier, 5-0 prize. If you played Powerplay back then, it would have made it $1,000,000 automatically. Same goes for the Megaplier. Today, the $3 total powerplay single ticket jumps up to $2M regardless of the drawn multiplier. Still, I wouldn't complain about $200,000 whatsoever. Hope you're enjoying that money.

While the value of a dollar is substantial, hope is priceless. But if you ain't got a dollar, then it's hopeless.

Actually, there is no multiplier in PB anymore.

All the Powerplay prizes are fixed now.

Oops, yeah I remember reading that now. I never do Powerplay, so I don't know the rules too well. I'm glad they kept the Powerplay at $1 though, because they could have easily made it a total $4 for a single Powerplay line. By the way, anyone know the sales estimations? I'm curious if the $2 Powerball has affected the sales or not.I stopped playing $5 and $10 QPs since the price hike, just one line until it gets higher. Then I get a little adventurous and do my usual numbers alongside a quick pick for a whopping $4!

The scuttlebutt is that the sales are a little slow after that big pot went down.

It'll pick up again once the pot gets bigger though.

Unless I win it before then. Big Grin

There were 602907 prize winning tickets in the last drawing. The odds of winning something are 3.14%. So you can estimate that the total sales were somewhere around 19.2 million tickets. Of the winning tickets 18.8% were power play tickets. Applying that ratio to the estimated total tickets sold puts the sales at $42 million. Don't know how this matches up with reality but the law of large numbers says it should be close.

The The fixed Powerplay option that would automatically give you $1,000,000 didn't go into to effect until 1/15 of this year.

In "07" when you played the Powerplay a number between 2-5 was drawn known as the "multiplier" which determined if any lower tier prize was multiplied 2-5 times.

Just a correction to my own reply, it is also not an option when you get 5+0 to win $1,000,000 with Powerball. Just the standard $2/ticket.

Cool, are those actual numbers they get from MUSL? If so the mathematic estimate is pretty close.

tks for the heads up on the lottoreport website. quite a read and some excellent analysis. sure sounds like the main winner from the changes are the lotto agency in the various states, especially with the new "lower" payouts for power play.

always good to get new perspectives.

                            i liked this line

Since TX joined Powerball, there have been 5.6 BILLION tickets sold in the 44 states/jurisdictions and only 29 tickets have matched 5 numbers plus the bonus number to win the jackpot.

And interesting to me if you divide the 5.6 billion tickets sold by the 29 jackpot winners over that period you get 193.1 million tickets sold per winner, right where the odds say it should be.
