then why bother to play and win the lottery then. if you win immediately take spelling lessons with your share. but, if this about to retire kansas couple aren't planning to run off to thailand with their money why bother to claim it anonymously. certainly, their town fire dept.,schools, and library could use a halfway decent donation. if they do that they will be known. if they don't do something charitable then yes, they are kansas greed balls. it may be no ones "business" but you can't have it both ways. either cut and run if you win and want to hoard or stand your ground and share.

You missed the point and obviously did not read any of the posts. What is not fair is having some states that allow you to be anonymous and others that don't. This is stupid and not a level playing field. When I win I don't care who knows, but I am not exactly going to advertise it either. But give me the same option any other state.

Brad, IS this NOT the United States of America and aren't we afforded freedom of choice ?? Last I knew NOT EVERYTHING is in the Constitution or has to be run by the U.S. Government, so that everybody has a fair shot at everything. If you don't think that each state is capable of doing things differently for the common good of all then perhaps you need a minor lesson in history. By your statement of

"This is stupid and not a level playing field."....................Lets take a look at the Multi state lottery system being found 40 + years ago(formerly known as NASPL)......

Congress allows for the states to have an agreement because of the following:"

Congressional consent to an interstate compact need not be explicit. The constitution does not state when the consent of congress shall be given, whether it shall precede or may follow the compact made, or whether it shall be express or may be implied."

You can find this on interstate compacts which also covers lotteries

"In the United States all lotteries are operated by state governments, which have granted themselves the sole right to do so. In other words, they are monopolies that do not allow any commercial lotteries to compete against them. The profits from U.S. lotteries are used solely to fund government programs."

ALSO:  "During the 1980s lottery officials realized that multistate lotteries could offer higher payoffs than single-state lotteries because the costs of running one game could be shared. The Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL) was formed in 1987 as a nonprofit association of states offering lotteries."

With that being said, it means the states have the right to impose privacy laws on lotteries/tickets puchased in their repective state. Having a choice is part of the freedoms this country was founded upon.

          fabre98,

" ...why bother to claim it anonymously."

          Bang Head

Because of mooches like you that feel someone else's jackpot and what they do with it is somehow your business. You're the true 'greed ball' here. What you're really saying is, "They have to give some to me."

Those who run the lotteries love it when players look for consistency in something that's designed not to have any.

          Lep

There is one and only one 'proven' system, and that is to book the action. No matter the game, let the players pick their own losers.

Faber...please try and understand something,, when you criticize others about spelling make sure you have the decency to structure your sentences properly as well (see your 2nd & 3rd sentence "but" & "certainly" were improperly capitalized)..Nobody here is perfect with all grammar so read through and comment fairly. As I have stated before,"Man up"......
Now back to the rest of the Faber opinion shall we ??.....The couple has the "OPTIONAL RIGHT" to remain anonymous under the Kansas rules. They chose anonymity because it's THEIR CHOICE and not yours or mine.

"certainly, their town fire dept.,schools, and library could use a halfway decent donation. if they do that they will be known"
Key word here..."DONATION"....donation as defined and I quote, "an act or instance of presenting something as a gift, grant, or contribution."
A contribution can be anonymous..how you ask ?? try this on for size.....Go purchase money orders at a kiosk for $500 a whack, make them out to the respective party and keep your stub for tax purposes...Still anonymous and nobody knows except you and the IRS.

Sorry Faber..............you ARE wrong, nobody has to cut and run...How people lead their lives and what they do or don't do after they win is none of your business or mine.    No No
Try to have a nice day and win a jackpot this coming week......oh yeah,  Happy Easter !!!

The fact that the media keeps running with a story about the woman who works for McDonalds and is  obviously lying does make me a little suspicious about two winners who are allowed to stay anonymous. Looks like some sort of mis-direction going on.

Would any of you people who think the winners should be allowed to claim anonymous in every state still think that way if and when all lotteries go computer digital?

Probably not GYM......while they show no involvement, they are subject to failure and mechanical defects and no witnesses..... ping pong balls being extracted always show exactness that anyone can visibly verify......IMHO

how were they impropery capitalized when i didn't use any capitals, as none should be necessary on these forums. it's your idiotic big blue letters to emphasize all your non-points that should be criticized and banned. i do not care if they claimed their prize anonymously or not. i have no designs on their money or anyone elses unless i know them. i just want winners disclosed since they won some of my money. what is their motiviation for doing it. is it to avoid the moochers or do they want to keep it all for themselves. all i'm saying is that unless they split town everyone is going to find out. it cannot be kept under their friends and relatives hats. not even possible. if they don't help out their local schools, fire, and librarys (the police can go pound sand, they don't deserve a dime) they will become somewhat of an outcast in their community. it is within their right to do what they want, but if they want to hide in their house with drapes drawn let them. that's too much money for them to handle. loosen up with it i say, and i'm sure their townspeople would agree. give it anonymously. give me a break. everyone would know and word would spread in less than an hour and they should announce that they are helping the town out since it would help keep others off their back.

no, i didn't say i wanted their money. i just want to know their motiviation for doing it, since they are going to be found out if they stay. who's kidding who? everyone wants to know who won it whether it's their "business" or not. then after that leave them alone. but you're better off disclosing and getting it over with since it would be virtually impossible unless you run to switzerland to keep it a secret. how could you enjoy the money if you hoard and invest it all and hide all day in your house. you would have to only marginally upgrade your house and car or people would wonder. try watching that tv show on how the lottery changed my life. i'm not advocating everyone should go to that extreme but their has to be a middle ground. you say it's up to them (wow what an observation) if that's how they choose to live after garnering 100million dollars they i feel sorry for them.

People who want anonymity aren't being hoarders, they're being cautious.  Charity doesn't work if it's done under pressure.  It only has value when the person chooses what and who to give the money to.  Privacy doesn't equal greed.  But it does equal better control over the winnings and a less likely ability to squander them.

Most people who win the lottery want to continue living a normal life after the lottery.  Being anonymous is the best way to make it possible.

Smooth move claiming anonymously because the national news would've been all over that.

fabor98,do you know how many people in Kansas that have claimed their lottery winnings anonymously?Do YOU know their names?I haven't seen one of them featured on The Lottery Changed My Life and I've never read a single word about any of them other than the fact that they claimed their winnings anonymously. It appears to me that they have managed to stay out of the limelight. And that is what it is all about. So much for your goofy theories.
