Let's see...  The woman hasn't checked her pants pocket... She knows she hasn't checked her pants pocket.. She is still looking..

????????? Is there a prize for sounding stupid or what?

If so , she won.. give her the prize...

Either way, I've got the perfect prize for Ms. Wilson, send Bill Engvall to her house with a "sign". Thumbs Up

Congrats to the Kansas winner on a smart move and a job well done!

What do you think CT ???  Not held enough as a child or lack of adult supervision in his adolescent years ?

does anyone really believe friends and family will say it's ok if you don't give me anything or very much if you win 100 million dollars. they will be envious and jealous and hate your guts if you don't cough up a big slice to them. they may not say it to your face but they will go home and throw things against the wall (probably at a photo of you) if you stiff them. that's the real world, not the politically correct nicey nice world you live in.

      fabre98,

"...how else can family and friends go after them for a cut. that's half the fun of winning."

Well you've shown yourself as a chooch and a mooch. That one statement is more than enough reason for people to remain anonymous.

so you advocate remaining anonymous and not sharing it at all. as soon as you share any of it people will find out. they couldn't keep quiet about it. what does the winner do, say i'll give you 50k but you can't tell anyone that i won. you can't have it both ways. either you do what this kansas greed ball did or you disclose and share. what would you do.

Faber my boy....lets take this one sentence at a time...."does anyone really believe friends and family will say it's ok if you don't give me anything or very much if you win 100 million dollars.they will be envious and jealous and hate your guts if you don't cough up a big slice to them. ????
Do you honestly care what other people think ?    Seriously ??...Does your everyday existence in life continue because of the opinions of others ?  If it does ??  You MAY WANT to associate with some new people who will judge you based on  your personal integrity, the content of your character and truthfulness in your words. While you can't change family, you CAN choose not to associate with them. As far as giving family money ??  That's your personal choice NOT THEIRS. While its nice to help family out if you choose, that would depend on how they treated you over the years... I don't know anyone that would help someone out who mistreated them......

"they may not say to your face but they will go home and throw things against the wall(probably at a photo of you) if you stiff them.'
AGAIN.....Do you live by their ideas or yours ??  Are you a man or a mouse ??  Stand up to people who think you owe them..If you have debt then pay that off, but living by other peoples thoughts of how much you should do for them because you have money ??? Not no but HELL NO..Its your life...MAN UP !!!!

I don't live in the politically correct world...I reside in my world where I choose my friends and people that I want as associates(including family members). I choose people who have proven themselves by the way they act and treat others.
For me its simple....be honest, show integrity, courtesy and we will be good friends. Expecting to receive  doesn't get it. I have no problem telling anyone on the entire planet where the bear goes to the bathroom in the woods.

glad you don't care what people think about  you.  you really believe if you won that sum of money your true friends wouldn't care if you shared some with them and would continue to lend you their garden tools. if your family treated you bad over the years there must be a reason. by all means remain anonymous if you can and move to idaho as soon as possible and make all new friends and start a new family. and invest your money so you can make more than you can possibly spend. remember money will change you relationships with people if they find out you won it and try to hoard it all for yourself. my point is you probably would share and then everyone would find out thus no need to claim it anonymously in the first place. either you claim it and run and hide or you share it and stay in town. if you do the former and stay i hope enjoy the dirty looks you get from your friends family and neighbors. they will probably hire someone to flatten your tires every time you go to the bank or store.

I don't think it is fair to write him/her off as greedy, especially since neither you or I know who he/she is, or what their intentions are with their money. All we know is that they have talked about retirement and they are still awestruck by the win.

I'd recommend to just leave it at that, they are still within KS lottery rules, it's none of our business what they do with their share.

Faber, you can state your theories and what ifs all day long. When it comes down to winning the jackpot and being anonymous, its your choice. Take the word "Friends" what are the last 4 letters ?  "ENDS" and that is what you do to people who have you in their lives for money.....Have any of the anonymous lottery people in the past been "found out" ???   I haven't seen any articles about them.....The people who stay in/seek the spotlight will still be bothered by others who want something for nothing.....Stay silent, move on and associate with people who appreciate you for being you. The End

True friends wouldn't. We aren't sharing paychecks, now. Why should that change?
I really believe I could buy my own garden tools at that point -- and a gardener, too.

Hire? If they have that kind of money, they can afford to buy their own lottery tickets.

gppd luck with that if you win. and you don't need large blue letters to get your non-point across. i guess you don't understand human nature. you don't have to help strangers but believe me you will be scorned if you don't dole out to friends and family. why would anyone want to remain anonymous. it seems to be to ward off the throngs of people you don't know who would be looking for a handout. i'm just saying you cannot remain anonymous unless you cut and run. otherwise everyone will find out. why is this so difficult for you to understand. so keep your money and sail to madagascar. please.

hope you and your money enjoy each other. talk about unmitigated greed. and your "true friends" would treat you like you have leprosy if you stayed around which you indicate you wouldn't anyway. good luck playing cribbage in your gated community somewhere.

The anonymous Kansas winner will soon fade into obscurity as the media rushes back to the east coast to document the left pants pocket being checked.

A press conference will be held afterward to disclose the time and location of the checking of the right pants pocket.

It is not known at this point in time if the pants have back pockets or if and when they would be checked, given the hectic schedule of press briefings on the progress of the search.

                            Depends.

If you have a brand spankin' new Aston Martin sitting in your driveway a week after you win, then going anonymous would be pointless.

For a winner that invests the bulk of his money and continues on with normal day to day activities and does not go too far beyond his old means, it's definitely possible to remain anonymous even in a small Mid-Western town. That does not mean someone would have to remain stuck in a double-wide trailer home and not enjoy their money. Having that kind of money would afford someone the time to come up with a good solid plan for the future. (ex. plan on starting up an in demand business or a franchise, to create some local jobs. If folks ask where you got the money to do it, just say you qualifed for a loan and nothing more. It's not exactly a lie, since technically you do qualify for a loan now. As profits increase, grow your business and expand it to multiple locations. No one is going to question you then if you go out and buy an Aston Martin or cut all the relatives a nice $10k Christmas check every year.)

I remember reading an old story not long ago about lottery successes, where one lady continued to work at the volunteer organization that she loves being at. Every year she plays secret santa and randomly gifts a family member a nice sum of money. I am almost sure her relatives still have no idea where the money comes from every year.

As far as people bothering the winner, that all depends on who you know and where you live mostly. But we only hear the few negative stories in the media, that is what makes the news. Not the thousands of boring stories where none of the winners were ever bothered, or robbed etc. People only read those and then become over paranoid thinking that the whole world will now be watching their every move. Please, no one cares or will care after about a week. So this whole anonymous thing is just BS and self-righteous paranoia.
