10.8 is horrible, should be tax free.

New Jersey had 52 $1,000,000 last year... Plus a big jackpot... And starting this year strong... Hope it spreads to the mid west!!!!! Congrats to the winners tho :)

Sure its going to spread, all the way to the West Coast, namely California. We ready for this baby to arrive and deliver. The rest of the nation dodged a nuclear bullet by California not being part of this latest PB jackpot.Better hold onto your hats people once California gets in on the game, its gonna be quite a ride.

Todd, when i heard bordentown on the news this morning, first thought was, out of state winner,

PA. turnpike, NJ. turnpike, US. 130, interstate 95/295 ppl. from all over the place in that area everyday,

it's like when a winner is sold at an airport.

        I bet Jersey can't wait for their 10.8 %

The strange thing is that the NJ Lottery director said in her press conference this morning that NJ is only withholding 3% from the payout for state taxes.  I am not aware of any changes to the tax law in NJ, so my guess is that they take the rest later, but I need to check on it.

After NJ take their share, do they have to pay the IRS money also?

Did you hear about big fire in the townhouse in DC? It was owned by a Democrat, Socialist, and a Republican. Only the Republican survived the fire! Why? Because she was AT WORK.

They both simultaneously get their share.  Both withhold fixed percentages of the jackpot upon initial payout, and then the winner will likely owe some more taxes by the end of the year.

Thanks for the reply Todd, seems pretty confusing if I was a US citizen and won first thing I would do is seek financial help from a lawyer or something. I guess most winners do that anyway.

Isn't this that woman who called a Press Conference to brag about her winning the jackpot while those in the pool she was a part of- did not? If it is her, she was a few fries short of a " happy meal".

She is a example of why I wouldn't want to be in a pool.

Uhm yes....the IRS (Internal Robbery Service) gets 25% off the top then you owe them another 15 -20% at tax time....Gotta love the private bankers looting the world....<snip>s.  The IRS is the collection arm of the private Federal Reserve.  The "Federal Reserve" is about as Federal as FEDEX.

That sucks, must be annoying if you won 500M and then they come along and take all 150M straight away. I would rather it go to charity than them taking it.
