Melvyn Wilson might be running out of room for all the big Virginia Lottery ceremonial checks he's received. Back in 2005 he won prizes of $1 million and $500,000 in Virginia Lottery Scratcher games. In 2004 he won a $25,000 prize.
Now the Woodbridge man has done it again.
He scratched to win $500,000 in the Virginia Lottery's Millionaire Mania game. He bought the winning ticket at Handy Dandy Market, 13316 Occoquan Road in Woodbridge.
"I'm just in the right place at the right time," is how he explains his amazing lottery luck.
The store received a $10,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling the winning ticket.
In Millionaire Mania, $500,000 is actually the second prize. The game's top prize is $2 million.
Mr. Wilson is the game's third $500,000 winner, which means three half-million-dollar tickets remain unclaimed. Two $2 million tickets remain unclaimed.
Mr. Wilson retired from the postal service in 2007. What does he do with all those winnings?
"I invest in Melvyn," he said with a laugh.
