Scam Alert

A Broward County, Florida, woman pleaded guilty Monday to her role in a Jamaica-based telemarketing lottery fraud that targeted seniors in the U.S.

Elizabeth Gonzalez, 25, of Hollywood and Miami Gardens, a nurse, pleaded guilty to a federal wire fraud conspiracy charge in federal court in Fort Lauderdale.

Her husband, Delroy Drummond, a musician who also goes by the name Top Banga, age 26, has been locked up has been locked up without bond since January. He pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud for his role in a $500,000 lottery hoax.

Gonzalez, who is pregnant and free on $100,000 bond, told U.S. District Judge William Zloch her husband asked her to get involved in the fraud and she was "afraid" to say no to him.

She is expected to face about one year to 18 months in federal prison when she is sentenced July 27, prosecutors said.

Gonzalez admitted she received nine wire transfers from victims, who were in their 70s and 80s, between September and January. Telemarketers in Jamaica had contacted the victims and duped them into believing they had won a lottery prize, then told them they had to pay fees or taxes in advance. The victims were told to send money to Gonzalez and her husband, authorities said.

So pregnant women should be absolved of crimes they commit?   Don't think so.

Pregnancy in jail/prison is nothing new. If guilty, jail time is in order. If you do the crime, you do the time.

Prisons offer services for both the pregnancy and her baby. She will not be the first.

All elder and soon to be senior citizen LP members should take this as another warning.

Trust very few. Create a lifeboat and only save your few who you love all others can look elsewhere. Be a friend to your special few and include them in your life decisions like sending money to strangers.

Biology 101: Where does a baby grow?

The baby does not grow in the stomach. It grows in the womb - which is another word for uterus. The pre-pregnancy uterus is fairly small, about the size of a woman's tightly clenched fist. It sits right above the vagina. The cervix - which can be felt at the top of the vagina connects the uterus and the vagina.

Before pregnancy the uterus is situated safely behind your pubic bone, unless a girl or woman is extremely thin, it can't really be felt by pressing on your tummy. Once an embryo attaches to the lining of the uterus, the uterus starts to move up - just a little bit to make room for the uterus to grow with the baby.

At 12 weeks gestation the very top of the womb (called the fundus) can be felt at the same height as the pubic bone - for the next 28 to 30 weeks it will grow at the rate of 1cm/week - so by 20 weeks the womb will measure 20cm and will be about even with the mother's belly button. Tracking this growth is one way the doctor knows all is progressing normally. At 40 weeks the womb will measure 40cm - by this time most women are pretty sure there is no more room in the womb - thankfully the journey is about over.

When you hear someone talk about about the baby growing in their stomach feel free to remind them the baby is no where near their stomach, as it safely grows in the womb.

I Agree! although,...she might have delivered the baby by her sentencing date, July 27

Depending on when she conceived, since her husband has been locked up without bond since January.
