Deadline approaching for three unclaimed $50,000 lottery tickets in Virginia

PowerballPowerball: Deadline approaching for three unclaimed $50,000 lottery tickets in Virginia

Virginia lottery players: Better hurry and check your Powerball ticket from the historic $1.6 billion jackpot in January.

Three tickets in Virginia, worth $50,000 each, have not yet been claimed from that big drawing, officials said.

But the deadline to claim the prizes is fast approaching. Lottery officials said the tickets expire 5 p.m. July 12. In Virginia, winning lottery tickets expire 180 days after the drawing. So the clock is ticking.

Two of the winning tickets were sold in Northern Virginia: at the 7-Eleven at 9402 Richmond Hwy., in Lorton, and at La Bodega Supermarket at 6170 Arlington Blvd., in Fairfax County. The third ticket was purchased at Fas Mart at 409 Quillen Ave. SE, in Coeburn, about 170 miles west of Roanoke.

There were several big winners in Virginia from the huge jackpot. More than 700,000 tickets were sold in the state for that big drawing. The big winners for the $1.6 billion Powerball were in three states.

The winning numbers from the Jan. 13 Powerball game were 4, 8, 19, 27, and 34, with Powerball number 10. The unclaimed tickets sold in Virginia matched four of the first five numbers and the Powerball number, officials said.

In Virginia, lottery winnings that are not claimed by the deadline go to the state's Literary Fund. The fund is used for educational purposes, including for teachers' retirement programs and to upgrade technology in schools.

This comes after a no-winner draw Tuesday in the latest Mega Millions game. That jackpot now is at $540 million. The next drawing is Friday.

The winning numbers from Tuesday's drawing were: 29, 46, 53, 64, and 73, with Mega Ball number 10.

It is the 34th time the jackpot has rolled over without a winner.

"This is our longest roll ever, by far," said Paula Otto, executive director of the Virginia Lottery and lead director for Mega Millions, which is managed by a consortium of lottery organizations.

The odds of winning the Mega Millions game are roughly more than 1 in 250 million. The Mega Millions game is played in Washington, D.C., the U.S. Virgin Islands and 44 states.

Must be late time to claim lottery prizes today.   Wonder if we'll have a post from that third Powerball  ticket in January from California?

l recall an episode of Sesame Street years ago where Ernie misplaced something so Bert says " Check your other pants" and he responds " l don't have another pants. " Point being - if you have checked everywhere and came up empty...well.Confused

If those tickets are not quick picks, they were probably purchased by the same player. This player must have wanted the $1.6B but got  consolation prizes instead and said,"SCREW IT".

Two of the tickets were purchased in the same county while a third was purchased in a completely separate part of the state.

I Agree!  That $50,000.00 could go a long way if invested wisely. It would definitely boost a retirement fund.

                  .

Yes, I am regularly guilty of that. I do use the little scanner to check all my tickets,
every week, when I go to buy my next week's tickets.

More importantly, I use Usamega.com, for a continual check  on MM and PB jackpots,
as well as for the news
                  articles.

After that, I usually head to Youtube.com to check for "auto crash" video compilations from
                  Europe. Incredible how many 'accidents'
                  they have over there.

                  • Don't chase the numbers you play.
                  • Play only numbers you've already played, plus however many random picks.
                  • But, ALWAYS the regular numbers you play.  This will make you a winner, not a chaser.
(so far, though, I've yet to win any significant lotto prize)

That it's unlikely that the same player purchased all three tickets but certainly possible that the same player could have done two of them.

This is so frustrating. All of us are playing so many lines on games hoping we can hit something... And then multiple 50,000 dollar tix are just sitting with no one claiming them...

Yeah really frustrates me too!  People like you and I play HARD and can maybe only win a few dollars here and there.

It was way too easy for these winners to win & they don't even bother to check or even keep track of their tickets!

                            My Pie Master,

I've been sitting here, trying to figure out what the Fred Flintstone cartoon had to do with your post.

(my favorite shows are: "Gilligan's Island" and "The Munsters".

The Munsters nearly put me in the hospital (lol) after one episode.
It was the episode where Herman Munster is looking for work, and he lands a job at
a Chinese laundry. Well, there's so much work for him to do, he can't handle it all, and
ends up getting himself fired. Later, at home, he and Grandpa are sitting there, talking
about Herman's experience. The phone rings, and Hermy 'loses' it.

The episode is a Must-see, and I can't ruin it for you.)

Everyone:    GOOD LUCK ON YOUR $540 Million, tonight!
