Still missing: two lottery winners have weeks remaining

By the end of the month, two large lottery prizes won in Massachusetts will no longer be eligible to claim: a $100,000 Mass Cash prize and a $50,000 Powerball prize.

It's been nearly a full year since someone in Massachusetts won a $100,000 Mass Cash lottery prize and, separately, a $50,000 Powerball prize, but no one's come forward to claim either one.

By the time September rolls around, they'll be long gone.

On Aug. 29, 2025, someone purchased a Mass Cash ticket at T Square Food Shop on North Franklin Street in Holbrook and beat the odds of 1 in 324,632 to win the game's top prize of $100,000.

Anyone who matches all five numbers wins the fixed top prize, and that's what that ticket had done with numbers 5, 6, 8, 21, and 29 in the Midday drawing.

But if the winner does not present the winning ticket by Aug. 31, the prize will expire.

That's not all — there's also a winning Powerball ticket worth $50,000 floating around that is due to expire around the same time. That ticket was purchased for the Aug. 27, 2025 drawing at Centre Liquor on Centre Street in Jamaica Plain.

The Powerball ticket matched four regular white ball numbers plus the Powerball number to win the game's third-tier prize of $50,000, beating even harder odds of 1 in 913,129. The winning numbers in the Aug. 27, 2025 drawing were 9, 12, 22, 41, and 61, with red Powerball number 25.

The winning ticket will expire if not claimed by Aug. 28.

If the winners do plan on coming forward, they should be aware that prizes of up to $103,000 in Massachusetts can be claimed at Massachusetts Lottery claim centers located in Braintree, Dorchester, Lawrence, New Bedford, West Springfield, and Worcester. Prizes that exceed $103,000 must be claimed at Lottery headquarters in Dorchester.

Winnings that go unclaimed in Massachusetts are absorbed into Lottery net profits that eventually return to the state fund.

Mass Cash drawings take place twice a day at 2:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. EST. A full list of odds and corresponding prizes can be viewed on the Prizes and Odds page.

The next Powerball annuity jackpot estimate for the drawing on Monday, Aug. 10 currently stands at $905 million.

Powerball is currently offered for sale in 45 states, plus Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Drawings are Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays at 10:59 p.m. Eastern Time. Tickets cost $2 each.
